It is the year 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze age. Two emerging nations begin to clash after Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that his wife was taken by the Trojans, he asks his brother Agamemnom to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. So they set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy. With the help of Achilles, the Greeks are able to fight the never before defeated Trojans. But they come to a stop by Hector, Prince of Troy. The whole movie shows their battle struggles, and the foreshadowing of fate in this remake by Wolfgang Petersen of Homer's "The Iliad."

Finally I got to see this movie theaters in negotiating
here in El Paso on Labor Day. I originally had not thought much about the film, but as
the passage of time that had left the regular theaters here in the city
and I realized that I want to see me ido. I remember hearing several
outside critics blasting the film as horrible and wanted
judge for myself. I am very happy that finally saw this movie.
This film is not the usual Clash of the Titans / Jason and the Argonauts
kind of movie where the gods are constantly and displayed as
most important and powerful than the humble humans . In fact, this movie completely ignores the
called gods and instead puts the attention
its rightful place - the warriors. He studied
Iliad, as well as other stories surrounding the legendary Trojan War
since my days as an elementary school geek obsessed with mythology and
Dungeons & Dragons. Instead of being oriented audience that this film demystifies
the Trojan war and this is one way in which
could have actually happened. We see that the elderly who continually refer to their
called gods come across as fools. One of the most
ie lines when Hector (Eric Bana) refers to the fact that Apollo
not strike Achilles (Brad Pitt) to desecrate the statue.

I have been a long time critic of Brad Pitt as a second level of talent that
became famous only because of its appearance, but in this movie that surprised me
. He is the real star of the film. Achilles is the most easily
interesting and entertaining character. I applaud Brad Pitt in the effort
make his character a tragic hero. Achilles acknowledges that he is NOT
, the son of a goddess and is not immortal and invulnerable. The film
basically shows how a rumor can flourish in a legend in itself.
Achilles' legend becomes immortal. Even refers to this in my favorite
scene when he is to inspire his men and begins the invasion
heavily and even more numerous triumphs. Later in the same scene that
scoffs at the so-called Greek gods and the Trojans of worship
decapitating the statue. I found this symbolic place of the film
. The gods are nothing to both characters and audience.
Instead of supernatural powers and impossible feats that we are treated to
realism. Even Achilles' death is more realistic than in the myth. In the myth
Paris does kill Achilles with an arrow, but because he has no skills
battle his hand is really guided by Apollo.
If there was one thing I did not like in this movie is the transformation
Paris in a kind of hero. Paris was a coward in
the original myth and I saw no reason to
convert it into a hero overnight in the film. I suppose that Orlando Bloom fans would not be able to withstand
seen as the bad guy and given an inspiration without
transformation of Paris in a better archer Robin Hood.
Although this film was far from the epic masterpiece that
had hoped producers or that are advertised as not deserve
the bad publicity it received from critics. I applaud manufacturers
this film and we look forward to purchasing on DVD.
