I live with Vietnam Vet who served in the late 1960's with 1st Cav.
Medivac. During the service won two Purple Hearts,
Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. Since soldiers were referred to
1 st Cav. Randy wanted to see it. I reluctantly agreed;
I'm not partial to war and the films I dislike Mel Gibson, and Randy is very difficult
Vietnam War film. Discarding as a bunch of 8x10 glossy Hollywood;
said Apocalypse Now is an interesting film that captures the paranoia, but
all technical details are wrong, and is described as DEER HUNT
excellent in its representation the strangeness of returning home but so
plot full of holes that can hardly bear. And on each and every
said: "It was not like that."

Was silent through the film, and when we left the theatre I asked what he
I thought. He said, "They finally did. That's what it was like
. All details are correct. The actors are like the men I knew
. They seemed already spoke well. And the Army also
wives, who in reality were like that, at least that I ever knew. "
The silence was long. At last he said, "You remember the
scene where the boy tries to pick up a victim of burns on his legs and all
slides off the skin? Something like that happened to me once.
Was in a helicopter crash. I went to pick him up and all the skin just slipped
immediately. Wait just as well. I've never said about any
. " In most respects We Were Soldiers is a war movie plain and simple.
There are several moments in the film recounts the war to
political and social movements that swirl about him, and the destruction of nearly
1st. Cav. "S 7 th Battalion in Ia Drang emerges clearly from the top brass
'foolish decision to send the 7 th in an ambush obvious - but
film is not as interested in what was happening at home or at higher
army as it is what actually occurs on the ground. And
in this is very meticulous, detailed and often horrifically
success. Neither Randy nor I - nor any other in the theatre I could see
- are bored or dismissive of the film. It grabs you and what you caught
hard, and I can easily say that is one of the best films of war
I have ever seen, much higher than the likes of Saving Private Ryan, who seems quite
tame by comparison.

Perhaps the single most impressive thing about the film is that
never puts in his characters in a heroic light, but are simply
soldiers who were sent to do a job , And they do so knowing the risks, and
they do so, despite the odds. Mel Gibson, although generally
despise him as an actor and a human being, is very, very good, as commander in chief
Hal Moore, and is matched by Sam Elliott, Greg Kinnear
, Chris Klein, and any other actor on the battlefield. The
support for women cast, seen early in the film and brief scenes showing
the domestic front as the battle cause havoc, is also particularly fine, with Julie Moore
capable of transmitting in a nutshell what most actresses can not communicate
in five pages of dialogue. The script, direction, cinematography
, and the special effects are sharp, fast, and possess a "
you are there" quality that is very powerful.

myself had a criticism, there are points in the movie when I met
use of a very modern, new-agey piece of music to be intrusive and
misplaced. And both felt that a scene near the end of the film
, when a Vietnamese commander comments on the battle, which was slightly
improbable and absurd. But this is nit-picky quibble. WE
Were Soldiers is a damn fine film. I will give Randy, who served two
service in Vietnam, the last word: "It may not be 'the' Vietnam
film. I do not think it could never be "the" movie in Vietnam. But they
quite get everything right. Here's how it seemed and sounded, and
that is what I saw, and this is the best movie about Vietnam that I have seen
. "F. Gary Taylor, aka GFT, Amazon Reviewer
In the tradition of such classic war movies as bridges to Toko Ri,
Al hell and back as well as John Wayne's The Green helmets
this is apparently misplaced epic with the amount of cynical pestilence
abound.

The pace is fast lightning once the transfer
scene in the early period of the Vietnam war before public opinion grew impatient. Result
of the film is often overlooked but in this case provides plenty of emotion
particularly since the 7 th Regiment mounts for the trip to South Vietnam
below the radio towers the late evening.

forgotten battle with the unsung heroes of both forces is a great movie
war should be a lesson for future productions.
