Desmond Doyle is devastated when his wife abandons their family on the day after Christmas. His unemployment and the fact that there is no woman in the house to care for the children, Evelyn, Dermot and Maurice, make it clear to the authorities that his is an untenable situation. The Catholic Church and the Irish courts decide to put the Doyle children into Church-run orphanages. Although a sympathetic judge assures Desmond that when his financial situation reverses, he will be able to get his children back; money is hard to come by. During that time, Evelyn and her brothers suffer the abuses of living in orphanages while Desmond struggles to secure finances. Now he must battle the courts to get his children back.

I must admit, I was skeptical and anxious to see Pierce Brosnan in a
serious dramatic role. His characters are often very elegant and
have an air of superiority about them that makes it appear to be better than the rest of us
. I was pleasantly surprised to see his true to life performance
as Desmond Doyle, an unemployed father of two boys and a girl named Evelyn.
Evelyn is the largest of the three children and has a special bond with her father
which is the basis of the whole film. Pierce Brosnan has his
character with a delicacy and dedication in which the viewer completely forget what
Pierce Brosnan and start really believing that this is a documentary film
type and not a Hollywood production. As Pierce Brosnan
Irish birth is not surprising how well you can draw a moderate
Irish accent, but it is still a bit shocking taking into account how he seems
English is usually when you see on the screen. Stephen Rea, Alan Bates, Aidan Quinn and Juliana Margulies
complete the rest of the cast of adults and put all
in performances that are worthy of their talents. Juliana Margulies
be an American born actress is able to portray a woman with Irish accent
very convincing. This film is undoubtedly one of the best films of 2002
, it is regrettable that it was not widely known as a possible Oscar
favorite.
I borrowed the DVD of 'Evelyn' several weeks ago but only got around to see tonight
you want and then looked at me several times in between
before returning to the person who provided
.... I was the only bright Expletive to describe this warm, sincere
likes the story that "do more". Pierce
that in my mind was the best Bond in the company (excluding that Connery
first gives originality) and was good for 2 or three more
at least, there demonstrates a Again, as in 'Grey Owl' he is an actor first level

Pierce, please, if the Bond producers can not recognize talent and judgement
general public, more 'Evelyn' kind of stories and Pierce, please
