Obviously, this musical has an incredible fan base. That became evident when
saw the film version the other day. There were many
of youth groups who came to see what director Chris Columbus
did to the music that is still running on Broadway after nine years.
The display is the adaptation of Steve Chbosky.

"Rent", written and composed by Jonathan Larson, began as a small
Musical Theatre Workshop in New York and then transferred to
Nederlander theater where he continues playing. The film has six
of the original cast by the members, except for Freddie Walker
which is replaced by Tracie Thoms and Daphne Rubin-Vega who was the original
Mimi, a role that was to Rosario Dawson in the film.

This film will undoubtedly attract a younger audience. The music
addresses them. This is a pop-rock and opera
make no mistake about it. Do not go thinking you are going to find anything resembling
Puccini "La Boheme". The musical is very loosely based on
characters in the opera, but that's where all purposes of comparison.
The people one sees in the musical are more real, because the pain
what is happening in their lives is evident. The AIDS epidemic
affected some of the characters, there are gays and lesbians only
without anyone judging what they do. At the bottom of all
is every day to survive in that environment. What

"Rent" that is, is a celebration of life on this side of New York
during the 80's when the anarchists populated the Lower East Side of Manhattan in
squatting in abandoned buildings and living precariously on the edge of
a society that did not want them around. Young people
who were attracted to the area resulted in a new way of living
without prejudice.

Unfortunately, everything comes to an end. In fact, just a short walk from the area
today show that gentrification is taking place after
Mayor Giuliani and his ilk have these bohemians
evicted to make way for new luxury condominiums and houses where
people celebrate the film will not have chance to live in them at all. This seems to be
the problem when artists create spaces that later takes over
the establishment, only to displace the creators, as has happened in
Soho, Dumbo, and will not be too far behind in the displacement of the Williamsburg art
settlers.

As a movie, "Rent" has great moments. Although one has heard the
songs many times, there is still a fresh take on them by the talented cast that
sing. Anthony Rapp, Adam Pascal, Wilson
- Jermaine Heredia, Jesse Martin, Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, Tracie Thoms
and Rosario Dawson as a joint effort under the leadership of Mr.
Columbus, which would have appeared as a
unlikely candidate to direct the film, but it brings the best of their talents cast.

by the way, "Rent" was filmed on the west coast, so do not go looking for any genuine
East Village locations, since most of what one sees
Probably will be shot in a studio. The Horseshoe bar shown in
outside, and a scene in Tompkins Square Park, but the rest is false.
I have sat in this review for a while, and I really have not had time to come
and after about my thoughts. A crew member of mine

hence, for the film. To say the least, this is an incredible and exciting experience
. I am the most critical Rent head. I love everything about
the lesson of Larson, but I was one of the most doubtful whether or
this movie could not pull ahead. But it did, and indeed this is one of the most incredible
refreshing flicks I've seen in a while. Also
often we went to the movies we've seen too many times before.
Trillo plots and characters too. Rent is none of that. Since
minutes the first chord of the film begins, you're whipped in
that "emotional and visceral feeling that everyone had to go to our first
rock concert" as it would Chbosky. "So God damned happy." No, really
the film. The first fifteen minutes is overwhelming. But in a good way
. I'm not one to spoil, in fact I refuse to do so. But
flash back and forward character motivations and livelihoods and
the song "Seasons of Love" that accompanies all this is a great way to start
the film, and the when the actors really begin to act now
incongruously feel close to them.

The structure of the film is brilliant in itself, and is what the game
mostover version is nonexistent. With the opening montage
and character motivations, which immediately attached to these eight individuals
love. With the fun and excitement through which follows
and pursues its bonds are strengthened so much more with each
so that when the heartbreaking conclusion produces all of you are the most
affected.

There was a performance devoid of emotion, and the option to bring back
the majority of the CBO and bring on board Dawson and Thoms are
fantastic casting decisions. For me, the standout performance of the
feature was Jesse L Martin as Tom Collins. Not only is that given the nature
biggest dilemma to deal with, and certainly one of the most
arches fantastic character in the film, but his acting is excellent and in the case of
Angel of Death - which is right there with him. Since
emotionally shattered like him.

of Rosario Dawson as Mimi image was phenomenal. The only reason
Dawson does not stand out as much as Martin is that she is obviously less
"musically inclined" than the rest of his cast. His "Out Tonight"
dancing, however, is hot and floors every male in the room. Dawson
easily snagged his first wink buzzing with this feature, as supplemented by FYC
the poster with her only to her, and she very well could give any other actress
a race for his money. His spirit and his charm is almost
entrancing the audience, and when you lose everything - and
essentially dies (emotional and mental) that leads to a more
heartbreaking moment when Angel's happening .

Menzel and Thoms are the other two bright jewels of the tender issued
two equally impressive performances and vocal talent. Menzel does well in portraying very
Flirty, ditzy (and very Jewish) Maureen - however,
although some are saying Menzel easily land a nomination
Maureen is too realistic a character considerably
be phenomenal acting, and Menzel is really only given a scene to show the delicate
alongside them frivolousness, and the acting is nothing to write home
.

The other is the remarkable performance of Adam Pascal. Mediocre scene
motivation, but the incredible emotion and fantastic voice. Pascal
not land any nomination for his image, but it certainly helps Dawson
carry the film as another initiative in the love story between
two.

Diggs, Heredia Rapp and all they operate well in their individual role. Rapp is
which offers much more of a leadership role in the game, but
not understand the fact that it is in a movie and not have to be as
'big' ; Like a theatrical production. Diggs is solid for her scenes, but rarely
concerned. Heredia and performance is really excellent, and
when complemented with Martin Collins' is heartbreaking,
is only a pity that he has absolutely no name for himself to land a wink. The
undoubtedly be warranted.

Overall, income is a masterpiece and should be recognized as such.
Despite its PG-13 rating, this is a very intense and fierce that the film
called out effectively the issues of homelessness, homosexuality, AIDS and bohemianism in New
York in the 1990's. The projection that saw both Halloween and
Goodbye, love (contrary to what others say), so
whether or not the cuts were actually made, I have no clue.

Needless to say, Rent will be a success among those affected all generations and is defined
Oscar material and after that refusal of most reviews
contenders, I would say that it has a shot at gold. In the photo, address and Cinematography
were fantastic and the results of Dawson and Martin
can easily land nominations. The film does not feel the need
to deal with controversial issues with sensitivity, because
are anything but delicate subject - but
handle each situation with class and that is the kind that gives Rental its charm.

The film is certainly a very moving piece of art, and like Columbus
told the WHO, I caught my crying "Thank You, Jonathan Larson."
