Mike takes full advantage of the situation, collects the money and runs. During his getaway, things go wrong, and soon get worse when he runs into the real hitman, Lyle.

"Red Rock West" is by far one of the best suspense thrillers of the
90's with an excellent screenplay (by John and Rick Dahl) that keeps you guessing
and especially the brink of its seat during most of the film.
Was brilliantly directed by John Dahl and offered a wonderful cast including
Nicolas Cage, Dennis Hopper, Lara Flynn Boyle and, especially, JT Walsh (
a memorable performance) that became a fascinating and
captivating thriller not to be missed. The film never had much publicity at the time of release (in fact, for the first time
caught up with him on television) and, therefore, is one of those little gems special
you have to look for, but this unique film is slowly gaining a cult following
.
Nicolas Cage is Michael Williams that broke and out of work when
finds himself in the small town of Red Rock. Confused with a contract murderer named Lyle
Dallas is shocked to be offered 10000 dollars for murdering the wife of
bar owner Wayne Brown (the excellent JT Walsh). Toca
along with the plan and decide which should go and warn Brown's wife, Suzanne (Lara Flynn Boyle
), but then the plot is thick and there are so many twists, turns and surprises
- and twice treatment - that Cage is pulled from one crisis to another
and is trapped in a terrible situation that can not drag himself away from
! Then, just to complicate matters even more true Lyle
shifts to carry out the contract murder (played by all the heavy favorite
Dennis Hopper). When
Hopper discovers what has happened goes after Cage, but nobody can foresee
surprising events that follow. Some lines
favorite movie:
Nicolas Cage (Lara Flynn Boyle): "I hate to see an innocent woman
get hurt but it's a lot of money. "
J. T. Walsh (Cage): "Michael Williams. Well, Michael, you're going to be
spend some time with us until we reach the bottom of this
. "
Boyle (Cage): "You is not a murderer? ". Cage: "That's right, no. But the guy I'm supposed to
only traveled to the city for what they gotta leave
here. "
Boyle (Cage): "O.K. How will you explain making a hired murderer
and taking $ 10000 from my husband? ".
An extremely entertaining little thriller (barely 98 minutes)
with a story that never lets up powerful and by all directors. Any film with J.
T. Walsh is O.K. in my book and "Red Rock West" was one of
its best. How sad is that this exceptional actor's career was tragically cut short
of a heart attack in 1998.
The most prolific period of "black cinema" was undoubtedly the forties but
"Red Rock West" is a good example of this modern genre and has jumped right into my
"Top Ten" list of all-time favorite movies. I look forward to more like this
director John Dahl. 10/10.

Red Rock West is what all movies should be like. A film really interesting
enough twists and turns to satisfy any sane human, is tragically
overlooked for his release. With Nicolas Cage (before his career went into orbit
) in shape and Dennis Hopper steal scene after scene, this is a film that supports
repeated watchings.
The rest of the cast are uniformly excellent and the quirkiness of the establishment
(a small town in the middle of nowhere) never reaches the
way.
Ultimately this is a great little film that deserves to be seen
.
