When Lynch wants to say something he takes his time, no doubt about it.
Sometimes it takes time, even when you do not have much to say.
Example?
Isabella Rosselini in stricken population density, bad wig, red shoes and is
ranges gently to the music while Willem Dafoe in accidents and gives her a vigorous
smooch. This is the beginning and end of the scene.
Another example? Cage and Laura Dern are having an argument just after
is let out of the Slams. She is nervous and upset because she has not seen it

I do not mean to sound like if I attack the film because that's not what I mean
to do. We are going to persist a little more than a scene much later. This
takes place in the middle of a street in the city, El Paso, I guess, but
is one of the industrial area streets are deserted in
weekends. It is a great furnace in the sun in silence, filled with street drunks
-looking telephone poles and lined with a history of
factories and warehouses, and there is a city on a distant horizon, Cerulean
urban haze . And Cage is walking alone through this dark and ominous
landscape. But not only the visual that makes this scene
outstanding. A handful of viperous wearing black dudes fall behind in
Cage and the figure of another group of blocks thug finally on their way
middle of the street. The music comes to an abrupt halt. Nobody said anything.
The atmosphere threatens to Throbs. Cage lays down his suitcase, takes
time for deliberately lighting a cigarette, looks around him and asked:
"Well - what faggots want?" What we want is to beat the hell out
him, and they get their wish. The unconscious Cage has a vision
The Nice Witch of the West (do not ask) and when that recovery is
is still surrounded by these sadistic brutes who ask him if he had enough
. The struggle to his feet, gingerly feeling his "broken" rubber
nose, and said: "Yes, I have had enough. Moreover,
I would like to apologize for referring to homosexuals as you hesitate earlier.
You have taught me a lesson. "Then he flees ecstatically. How many other
films can boast ten minutes of film as well?
Now, I see a lot of ten years (or ten-year-old minds)
might be bored with this movie. It is long. There is an abundance of
violence, although Dafoe extends its head blown off two explosions
of a shotgun. I mean, literally, his head was completely blown off
. It bounces off the wall like a soccer ball and lands with a high
symbol on the pavement. So perhaps there is some hope for the horror
fans, after all, but not much, when he reaches.
The film is punctuated with violence and, moreover, with curiosities, but especially
moves languorously. Cage and Dern thrum across Texas
night in a convertible whose brilliant old radio plays nothing but news
like, "A man won today its call for dismissal of charges that ate
his own son. "Well - no, but equally strange. A relative of
Dern starts putting a cockroach directly at its Netherlands
hole. Willem Dafoe should sue his dental surgeon. The
thrusts his mouth near the Dern at one point, urging his
say something dirty to him and he will leave her go, and your mouth is like a limpet
's, his the circle disgusting mouth of the membrane full of horrible
teeth.
I would not argue that "Wild at Heart" should be put into a time capsule
, but is not a film that is easy to forget. David Lynch
may or may not be a hot commercial property, but he is one of the most original
directors working today.
This is one of my favorites David Lynch films. It is also one of the
more transparent, easy to understand Lynch films, although this is not
why it is one of my favourites. But this fact also makes Wild at Heart
a good candidate for introducing someone to Lynch.
Moreover, although it is more transparent and linear in a
the surface, I am sure that I have not yet discovered the many
subtexts and strange symbolism that are well below the surface -
even though I've seen it a few times. Assuming that there is actually something
be clarified. To some extent, it seems that perhaps the touch of
something "deeper" in this case is more than a red herring. This is a
Lynch's film fun, but very macabre sense of humor.
Contains references to all of Lynch most common quirks content "-including
Sequin naive singing jazz, types of manipulation housewife, photos
asphalt for speeding, with minor characters freaky speech "impediments"
the breakdown of body parts, and on and on - but it's almost as if he
making fun of himself. Combine that with excellent performances (including a hilarious little
part of Crispin Glover, one of my favorites
actors / characters), a sublimely Result incongruous, and a retro,
grip, violent road trip saga cum romance that presages both Oliver Stone
Natural Born Killers (1994) and almost all of
Quentin Tarantino's career, and you have quite a film.
Wild Heart, based on a novel by Barry Gifford, is the story of
Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern), a range of eyes, "white trash with class" ;
Partner. As the film begins - and what it is a beginning -
Sailor someone tries to stab to death as he was leaving a theater. Sailor will have no
of it, Lynch and the film begins in an exciting, brutally violent
note - this is not a film for the weak of heart. To complicate matters
and establish the main conflict, even before learning the
attempt to stab the result was the man sent by Lula's mother, Marietta Fortune
(Diane Ladd), which claimed that Sailor tried to seduce her in the bathroom
(this is not entirely true, as we learned in detail below).
There is a character in the film that is not involved with any shade
business, either currently or in the past. Sailor and Marietta's
tensions stem from many years ago, when Lula was only a girl (she is supposed
a bit younger than Sailor). The events of the film
opening for Sailor proved to be jailed. Lula hopes
diligently to his release, much to the consternation of her mother. The essence of the basic
film is disarmingly simple - Sailor and Lula are headed across the country
, with the possible target of California, as trafficking in Marietta
arrangements for Sailor to be put off forever. There are many subplots and finely made
detailed tangents, but this is the crux of the plot
on the surface.
addition to its typical hyperreal / surrealist Curiosity, Lynch concocts
highly unlikely stew of influences that work together wonderfully.
Lula has something of an obsession with The Wizard of Oz (1939).
She is tormented by visions of the wicked witch (including the "evil cackle"),
and sees the trip as a true road trip to the Emerald City.
Lynch works in a lot of subtle references to The Wizard of Oz
with other characters, too. Sailor is something like lounge version of Elvis
reincarnated as a gangster FLUNKY even better with karate moves to
match. Yet the two are big fans of heavy metals, especially una banda
called "Powerman", whose music exquisitely punctuated many sequences, including some sublime
dance scenes. In the first half,
important scenes are set in New Orleans, familiar with the Undertones
disturbing that this town has often in the movies - you can only smell the voodoo,
sex, drugs and death of bubbles under the skin of the city. Rear
scenes are set in the desolate, desert country of Texas prairie, which
turns out to be even more disturbing (though I really find such places
refreshing and relaxing). There are other kinds of symbolic and stylistic references
literally worked in the film, as the
constant cause of fires, which Lynch outbreaks wonderfully, but this is only
to give you an idea of the pot.
Everything looks like it should add some subtextual grand narrative,
and maybe you do, but I have not found enough of what it all means
yet. But no matter. The style flourishes are clever
superficially, also, and perhaps only _is_ Lynch to be poking fun
Lynch. Here, perhaps more than any other work, which has
found the perfect balance between soap opera and totally bizarre -
filmic equivalent to author Harry Crews' best work.
Tarantino does not tend to have pithy subtexts in his films, either, but
that we are not worse for wear, and when Heart takes a wild turn
territory in typical Tarantino , Lynch is so captivating, gritty and groovy
, plus you're doing the same before Tarantino. At the same time
, Lynch manages to maintain a parallel lush, erotic romance between
Sailor and Lula - Dern is incredibly sexy and sensual. This material
well as works, supplies and what can only be the message of the film
after all - that love can (eventually) conquer all, even things that
" ; Wild at Heart and weird on top. "
