A Jewish male nurse (Ben Stiller) plans to ask his live-in girl friend (Teri Polo) to marry him. However, he learns that her strict father (Robert DeNiro) expects to be asked for his daughter's hand before she can accept. Thus begins the visit from Hell as the two travel to meet Mom (Blythe Danner) and Dad, who turns out to be former CIA with a lie detector in the basement. Coincidentally, a sister (Nicole DeHuff) also has announced her wedding to a young doctor (Thomas McCarthy). Of course everything that can go wrong, does, including the disappearance of Dad's beloved Himalayan cat, Jinxie.

'Meet the Parents' is a comedy that is fun enough for an evening
monitor. The central characters Pam and Greg are very likable but
Pam family to be slightly portrays a bit of a caricature. I think
is a bit far-fetched that everyone hates to Greg. Even the mother of Pam
reacts with indifference. I mean it 'object' but it's as if she could
less attention. But then again, 'Meet the Parents "refers to the tension between Jack and Greg
and both De Niro and Stiller
do well with his comic abilities. Although De Niro is the least likable character,
is good to see him in a comic role for a change. Stiller is his usual
ridiculous character on the screen (one hand is better in practice). However, due to
the director's focus on this, the romantic angle between the Polo and Pam
Stiller is Greg is not well developed, Teri Polo, but does a good job.
Blythe Danner is enough (though I do not know if the director
intends to present her as indifferent toward Jack's
cruelty). The toilet and sex humor could have been lowered as
overload use that brings down the entertainment factor for me. Also
the story follows the old formula of a guy trying to impress his girlfriend's parents
, hence the lack of freshness. Even so,
there are a lot of loose ends, like what happens with the son of Jack and
his boat. But despite the flaws, there are some genuinely funny moments
and I liked the "race" scene toward the end, Greg
problems with the hostess, and Greg's attempt to propose to Pam in
beginning of the film. Roach of the address is kind of remarkable
and 'Meet the Parents' Most of the works to an extent because of the actors.
This could have been more of a fun trip
not have been too over-the-top, but is hell of a lot better than the sequel. There is a lot more
other comedies I recommend more than this, but '
Meet the Parents "is not so bad that you do not want to give it a chance either.
Saboteurs on it.
Films are rarely about life, but life is often about movies. The most dynamic cultural
fed by stereotypes and stereotypes are manufactured
for us, in increasingly movie. There is a feedback loop where filmmakers
persecution formula and that formula is clear from previous films and
things of this formula in most stereotypes is entertainment.
This film is pure drek. The slide of DeNiro great actor is not even
more interesting. What is interesting, at least for me, is how Stiller
reactivation of a certain stereotype - the warmhearted, weak Jew: the oddball
anti-intellectual. When Chaplin played the vagabond, this is a kind of thing. When
Jackson plays a murderer read and write, is a race thing. The representation of Jews in
this level is both: it seems unhealthy to me, and something cowardly,
much lower than the septic tank jokes.
Instead of the Jewish-doctor, Stiller plays a nurse who is belittle a `real '
doctors. Instead of the powerbroker banker, we Stiller
easily mounted by the CIA guy (incidentally, a John Bircher judging from his bedtime reading
*). His predecessor and is still a competitor Jesus-freak. He is
Bester of a cat. His name is derided. Tip (pillar) is replaced by
spinelessness and incompetence. His bumbling destroys an altar. But he still
aces his school graduation test, and once outside the wasps became
aggressive, so there is some hint that is below a "regular" Jewish. These
film directors of the lots, so it certainly is engineering. I can imagine the
pitch, knowing that they have Stiller can play this kind of party.
Think about it. It is not fun?
(* For those who do not know, the book is read DeNiro is perhaps the most influential
screed in `global Jewish conspiracy" in the postwar U.S..
Such things as Eisenhower was a secret Jewish commies who gave half of Europe to Stalin
