Buddy (Will Ferrell) was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult human who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Hobbs, on Santa's naughty list for being a heartless jerk, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter's relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities.

This is a good natured holiday comedy that no doubt is in the same area
"The Santa Clause" and (dare I say?) "Miracle on the street 34."
The story is about a man who has been raised by the Holy elves at the North Pole and
as he gets older he figures that he is very different from the other elves. Years before
Santa (Ed Asner) is delivered to an orphanage and a human being accidentally
baby crawled into his bag and was brought back to the North Pole
where he was raised by Papa Elf (Bob Newhart). He is named Buddy (Will Ferrell
) and that grows to six feet three one day
told the truth about her situation and said that Santa by his real father. Buddy
travel to New York City to meet with his father and he heads for the Empire State Building
where she works. Find his father Walter (James Caan) who carries out a
publishing business and works all the time largely
despite his family. Walter is unable to move away from Buddy and after a blood test
shows that his son is wearing it home with him to stay with his family. The
meets Walter's wife Emily (Mary Steenburgen) and son Walter and
think Buddy is just someone back to his childhood after a clash.
Buddy begins to work in a department store and he meets a woman named Jovi (
Zooey Deschanel) and is smitten by her. Buddy tries to fit with other
but finds it difficult, but becomes friends with the son of Walter and begins
Jovi data.
This film is directed by Jon Favreau who has made his mark as a director of
low-budget films like "Made" and also as a character actor, but this is his
First effort at directing a film mainstream Hollywood. The
does a commendable job and as I've seen this movie I was having the feeling that he did
about the most commercial movie he could. Favreau
as an actor has appeared mostly in small roles. As director of his films small bit of luck
to play in art house theaters and I seriously doubt that will be rich
hosting "Dinner for 5" on the Independent Film Channel. It seems as if
he wanted to make a crowd pleasing film that will ultimately be playing in
some cable channel for the rest of our lives. I am not calling this decision
all, is a smart move and is turned into a major Hollywood actor
with the success of this movie. Even the script was written carefully to ensure that
When this plays on television there will be nothing to edit. The closest thing
a bad word is pronounced by Caan when he says "Hell" once
towards the end of the film. This is a fun movie that has undeniable charm and
his heart is definitely in the right place. It is corny and sentimental but thats
part of the appeal. The screenplay does not try hard and energy and
flow of the film is kept at a steady pace, not trying to go over the top
which is refreshing. Ferrell is a natural performer and his eyes wide ladysouljah
expressions never grow old. This film must be doing something right because
tough guy James Caan is credible as a caring husband and father. Very old
fashion history that never arose over the condition of light is
however, amusing and charming. As I said before, this film will be
playing on television every year for the rest of our lives!
Elf (2003)
desire I am sure that would have released this film in December, would still
since Christmas spirit, full-IER. Elf
was a hilarious movie about a boy named Buddy (Will Ferrel), which was raised by elves at the North Pole
. Then you discover that is not an Elf, and travels to New York City
find his real father (James Caan). It turns out that Buddy has a
his stepbrother and stepmother (Mary Steenburghen). Once there, he meets
Jovi (Zooey Deschanel) in a shop there, and falls in love. This film is all about
Christmas and the spirit is wonderful and enjoyable.
It is a great family film. You must have you ands his family to
holiday season. This will be one of those Christmas movies that I will be able
see over and over again. Elf has a 10/10.
