David Mann ('Dennis Weaver (I)' (qv)) is just a regular family man on a business trip. Unfortunately, things go from bad to worse when a huge gasoline truck in front of him forces him to drive slower than he wants. As the drive continues, Mann realizes that he's not dealing with just another road hog. Though he can never see the trucker's face, the driver proves to be psychopathic, starting to run Mann off the road and trick or force him into a number of deadly situations. As the horrific trip continues, Mann tries to lose the truck, but each time he thinks he's finally in the clear, the truck returns to terrify him more. Finally, the horrific conflict builds to a point where he realizes that running won't save him, and that he must take a stand and fight back against the insane trucker.

Duel is Spielberg's JAWS of the road, a raucous nascar race
a film that was "made for television." Usually, the phrase made for television makes me ill, but
Universal TV executives had no idea what he had here. It is so good,
film earned his deserved recognition in Europe, where he was released theatrically
. Spielberg's own idol, director David Lean, praised the film
suspense and excitement. A testament to Sir David Lean is enough to get any course
career. Duel starts from the point of view of a driver, and
never lets up. Fear Dennis Weaver encounters is not only in
monster truck, which is in an unexpected death persecution, but the inability of
to do (or what) is behind the wheel.
seemed like a great episode of the twilight zone, and Rod Serling
has been proud. Speed kills and may never pass a slow truck on the road
again after seeing this. There is no character development, not
humor, the characters unidentifiable, but in this case, who cares? It
only 90 minutes long and Spielberg's goal is to make you tired. To do that you
everyday experience what this seller is in for NO
apparent reason. In addition to a shark in the ocean, really I can not think of another more
terrible situation to be in.
The truck itself is looking sinister, almost like one of RAIDERS OF
Arca lost. The only vestige of a human being in the truck is an arm. The
arm waves like the hitch-hiker in the famous episode of Twilight Zone.
Weaver is concerned and looking silly in his Peter Fonda-esque tones, but
is a sign of the times. You do not necessarily find
rooting for him to escape alive. In essence, you are a prisoner of Spielberg's web
suspense, and a wide-eyed stay all the time. Great fun to see
big or small screen.
