In a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. He's not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily, reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. His feelings for her still run deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata. To find her, he enlists the aid of his only true peer, the Brain, while keeping the assistant vice principal only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura, intimidating Tugger, substance-abusing Dode, seductive Kara, jock Brad and - most ominously - non-student the Pin. Only by gaining acceptance into the Pin's closely guarded inner circle of crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard truths about himself, Emily and the suspects that he is getting closer to.

That is the story, right? Returning to the days of "China Town" with Jack Nicholson
chasing lead after lead, becoming the corners right and left, only to discover
the corners. The duping? We do not know until the end
to this rapid pace, hipster jargon-drenched wild revival
classic Black and White Film Noir. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (yes, the child
Third Rock) is a shining hero / foil as Brendan, bitingly dry, witty
quick, scrappy, yet reluctant detective trying to walk his
way through a network of lies, more lies, murder and lots of drugs missing.
His character is brilliant, he can read as a psychic in a
crack, change things in their favor within seconds of the game and people like him deftly
is ultimately played by itself. ... And he can take a punch. The plot becomes
this way, after that, keeping constantly to guess as to where
that will take you next. As soon as you think you know what's going on, you do not
. Nora Zehetner is a beautiful and beguiling femme fatale.
"Brian" (Matt O'Leary), which is constantly feeding his
Brendan facts and keeping him on track, he knows his stuff but never lets you know how.
Rian Johnson has written a screenplay and directed surprising in a whirlwind of experience
narrowly, painful betrayal and love / love
lost. The language takes a second to capture. It reminds me of the Swingers,
that has been as exciting as it was fun. The words in place and
the film has a slick, fast delivery as the best exchanges between
Bergman and Bogart, Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake. Take all this and drop
in a dark, clearly brutal modern world ... In high school, of all places
. There are even some peculiar humor thrown in, although the majority of
laughter from the audience were really nervous release of all
tension built in history. A must see.
OK ... I've never made comments about a film on IMDb, but this movie was so great that
really felt I had to raise awareness in this regard.
When I first read the synopsis of Brick at Sundance I was immediately interested in seeing
. "Film Noir in an institute."
I started hearing comments from really terrible and he almost did not come until the last day he could
. I am happy for what I did. It's a very unique movie,
such a refreshing for people who have seen it all. Therefore, if you want something new and different
which will undoubtedly enjoy this. Others may find
is too long for the top-for them - it took me several minutes to
understand what the characters were even to say first, in his
language that mixture of black cinema old slang with the new generation of
slang. Its very dark and the sound design even make a person feel uncomfortable
. The director associated sound and image in a way I've never seen, I
completely fascinating from start to finish. This film is not a relaxing walk
. Oh! but there is a great comic and ironic moments as well
! I believe that much of the criticism I have heard of this movie is that
was too incomprehensible and incredible. Personally, I really got
in the world of this movie and I were on the edge of my seat until the end
. It was so nice to buy into the rules of film noir
/ high school drama world and its characters. I do not even recognize the
lead that children from 3 rd Rock until the end! I
3rd Rock hated, but I absolutely loved and believed in his character
here. I loved it! One of my best options at Sundance this year. I feel
have never written an opinion ... I hope that this reveals something about the film
. Really, really hope that will be released soon! It is one of those
really interesting films that might be a cult classic.
