Not westerns that much more, at least on the big screen.
People in the Baby Boomer generation grew up with them on television.
Western movies were big at the box office in several decades, too.

Well, at least Kevin Costner should have a heart for the genre as it is
involved with several major Western productions in the past 15 years, this last
.

The best thing I can say about this movie right out front is that it may be the best western
I've seen. I can not give more praise than
! Since I've seen so many, for so long, is particularly high praise
.

I make this bold statement, due to the following: 1

- Fantasy beautiful scenery and cinematography. If it appears
spectacular in my 24-inch flat screen, I can not imagine how impressive
would be a great set of plasma.

2 - People who really care about, led by three players who
almost always give solid performances: Robert Duvall (the best here),
Costner and Annette Bening. Duvall, by the way, gives one of the best short
"speeches" I've seen in a movie. It's nice to see
Bening really play a healthy woman for a change. The two men who
are outside the range with Duvall and Costner were also excellent.

3 - just the right amount of action. When action occurs, such as
gunfire, the sound is incredible. This could be one of the best films
, acoustic-speaking, I have never heard, which is another reason for
ranking is Number One. There are no ranks, but not a ton of action,
either.

4 - just the right amount of romance. Do not get sappy,
not overshadow the basic story, but adds a pleasant and soft touch
to what could be a very harsh and unpleasant history. And in another twist,
is romance, not the usual climatic shootout, ending
this movie.

I can not say enough about this film except that I feel more
as well as westerns are not made today.
(This is my first written exam, so bear with me)

I have seen many of Kevin Costner movie (both acting and directing), and even more
western, and I have to say that this movie is the best in each category
. I always thought Costner a sub-par player, but I
could not imagine anyone else playing the role of Charlie. He had to
.

The rest of the cast is also excellent. Luna (Button) and Benrubi (Mose)
both are destined for greatness. Gambon (Baxter) and Duval (Boss)

been around long enough to make things right. Bening (Sue) is a better (and better future
) actress than ever. The cast, and
characters they create, all together so that flowed forcefully and believably

that I have seen a movie about a week in the life of the city before
Mose
Showed up that fateful day. The merchant and Percy (Jeter), in particular
shone, but every citizen of that city gave the impression that they had

a story to tell. But I parentheses, and cast and characters not only a
making films.

The dialog in many films today is too oriented to what the public needs to

hear. Instead of a fly-in-the-wall perspective on a realistic case, we

normally receives verbose exposure and other generally outside character
Dialogue,
so that the viewer less intuitive is not far behind. In "Open Range
"
given that we are a story. Four men and the task to be performed, with only

the words any four men in a similar situation would say to each other.
There was nothing in our custody alone, just a bare bones
character drama. It felt real, like I could have been right there in the middle of things
. That is how movies should be. I applaud the

creative minds behind it, and Costner, EfraĆn, above all
others.

I have not seen another film that captured the beauty of the title character

(the open field, nyuk nyuk) of light. Although I am sure that at least
some of the scenes was filmed in a studio, and picturesque background

seemed to be inserted in the ground at some points, the believability that this was
1880 "Old West" was always there. In the wide open skies and rolling hills to
pebbled streams and sweet built townscape,
I was completely impressed. The whole

/ art direction are not the only elements that capitalized on this
beauty. Often, the cameraman (and no doubt himself Costner) has
find surprising camera angles / motion to accentuate the nuances of the elements
sets. One such picturesque moment came in the form of a shooting
establishment of the best, clear pebbled Creek, shooting just inches above the surface, as
horses drank the purity of nature itself . Another shot shows the
hills and mountains with lightning crashing around him as a storm billows
his way to the city. Was this a shot effects or not? I do not know why and I

was too impressed by the attention. The film is beautiful.

There is also a beautiful dominates scene in which Charlie awakens from a dream and
disturbing at first did not know the dream from reality. The

use of camera movement and image overlay here is not as over-the-top

that feels out of place in the rest of the "artistic" films.
It is difficult for someone to do so.

All technical terms aside, this movie was born talent. The writers, actors
, and most importantly the director knew how to make a film
pleasant.
When a film just works, it's because producers have met

a group of personalities who work well together. This film obviously had
it. I am very much looking forward to whatever Costner

decides to bring us to another. I have been shown the light.
