It's hard to describe how well this movie is without sounding sycophantic
but it really is so good. This film se basa en la "real" story when
the notorious journalist Hunter S. Thompson and his then attorney Oscar Zeta Acosta
traveled to Las Vegas to cover a bike race for Rolling Stone magazine,
but instead spent the entire trip out of their minds in various illicit chemicals and
legal. This may sound like a trick pony for Stoners and
60's throwbacks but I am not and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
Very few movies based on books manage to tell the story or capture the spirit of
but the original M & L certainly manages both. The story sticks closely enough to
book without alienating the fan base of books, but also styles
right areas so that the film is not too long and uninteresting.
The film is still quite long, compared with the rate more popcorn,
around 2hrs and sinking recently in places, but the pace quickly collects
again . The performances are absolutely spot with Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro
practically become their characters. Both are largely covert
under makeup, but its ability to act shines through. At first: I
is not that impressive, it's a good film but not a great movie, but after a
second: I fell in love with her. You notice things and gather in gags
the second time around that you missed the first time. You immerse yourself in their world
to the point where you feel like you're there with them in the
"journey" in both senses of the word. I have shown this film to most of my friends
and they have also become hooked after seeing the film twice, is
such great shame that this film works and I am sure that
there are many people who are unwilling to give the second chance it deserves. If
have not seen this movie and I suggest you do if you do not like to see it
again. If you've seen this movie and did not like, see it again.
"The fear and horror in Las Vegas" is a twisted outlandish
venture into the mind of a deformed Junkie, a reporter who travels to Nevada
in order to cover a motorcycle race hell Angels, along with its
Samoan lawyer Dr. Gonzo (Benicio del Toro, who won forty pounds for his role
). "We were somewhere around Barstow when the drugs began to celebrate
," is the line that opens the film in an expeditious manner, as
red convertible rages from right to left in the direction of Las < br> Vegas. The trunk of the vehicle is filled with a large quantity of lethal drugs.
"We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets
high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine
, a whole galaxy of multicolored top," ; downers, screamers, laughers
. Also a quarter of tequila, a quarter of rum, a case of beer, a
pint of raw ether, two dozen amyls. "
The narrator of the story is Raoul Duke (played by Johnny Depp), a
Balding, stumbling shell of a man, constantly smoking or inhaling
drugs, his body overloaded with lethal substances. He is in a permanent
Dazed throughout the film, constantly using drugs ever
the camera pans in it. He is also the reporter, the main character
of the film, and there is Dazed after the motorcycle race
is more, he is not sure that even won. Hence, sitting in his crowded
increasingly trash hotel or apartment, begins clacking away
Mumbo-jumbo in his typewriter, desperately trying to make sense of
seemingly frenetic world that the surrounds.
The year is 1971, the beginning of the vestiges of frivolous
sixties. Raoul still seem to think that he is living in the past decade

"fear and hatred in Las Vegas" glamorizes drugs. In any case,
demonize them (sometimes literally), and the constant use of drugs
is nothing more than this to reflect the duo's crazy behavior.
That does not mean that "fear and hatred in Las Vegas" is a harmless movie
. Under the wrong circumstances, could be misunderstood, which is why
is almost a slap with X-qualification of the MPA, and - along with
of the book - caused outrage when it was published in 1998, alongside
total disaster "Godzilla".
Depp is why the story of the film is successful, as well as it does - an actor
minor may come across as annoying. Depp seems to be channeling

But what is essentially so fascinating about "The fear and horror" is

Terry Gilliam ( "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Brazil"), one can only hope that
the film to be strange, but is severely distorted the
point of madness. What is even more intriguing is the use of Gilliam

Somehow, "Fear and hatred in Las Vegas" is an absolute mess of a movie
- useless, sick, but it is also sometimes hilarious, and I found myself very
entertaining. I do not usually a fan of these kind of films
, which only helps to account for my great surprise in
conclusion that not only he enjoyed "Fear and hatred in Las Vegas," but
found that this is an important art house movie - strange, disconcerting,
odd, disconcerting. It's as if Fellini directed a Cheech and Chong movie
. It is an experience unlike any other, and although I can not
fully understand the negative consequences it has received comments from his release
years ago, I find myself somewhere between the haters and
die-hard cult fans. The film was released a criterion DVD last year;
a sign that despite his infamous background that really has a fairly strong
legion of fans. In some ways the film is so confusing and
wandering as its narrator. It is useless, but by the way, I think it is
point.
