It is the year 2029: Astronaut Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) boards a pod cruiser on a Space Station for a "routine" reconnaissance mission. But an aburupt detour through a space time wormhole lands him on a strange planet where talking apes rule over the human race. With the help of a sympathetic chimpanzee activist named Ari (Helena Bonham-Carter) and a small band of human rebels, Leo leads the effort to evade the advancing Gorilla Army led by General Thade (Tim Roth) and his most trusted warrior Attar (Michael Clarke Duncan). Now the race is on to reach a sacred temple within the planet's Forbidden Zone to discover the shocking secrets of mankind's past - and the key to its future.

Visually, this movie is sometimes a splendor, the light falls into a twilight
world.The Apes "the city is quite afraid
especially when you see it from afar, as against a sky.In
the ominous beginning, the cast and credits are also good results, with a proper martial
music.The first third has some funny, and parodic
sometimes politically incorrect lines.In the second third,
the film begins to lose steam, although the discovery of remains of the spacecraft
is a good idea. But that's not all good news.First all, the hero
lacks charisma and great apes and their makeup
simply overwhelm him and drown out.On the contrary, majestic
Charlton Heston, even when I was in chains, showed a Shakespearian
grandeur in the first version.
The last third consists of battles, a "second coming" and
"surprising" that ended without .. it would be "Planet of the Apes
." In fact, the new era that ended taken by Pierre Boulle 's
novel, but not without adding a unlikelihood that are mathematically
give you headaches if you start to think too hard: at least
that can do: Everything, even the names of the French writer's book
have been removed, even if some characters recall some of the Boulle / Shaffner
version.Shaffner had contented himself with change astronauts'
name (for example: Ulysse Mérou = Taylor) Hats Off to Helena Bonham-Carter
that brings warmth and emotion in a place VAP cast: in one part near
that Kim Hunter / Zira, really affirms its distinctive identity.

Both Linda Harrison (an unidentified woman captured with Leo) and Charlton Heston
(moaning its curse, which is certainly funny) appear unbilled.
Tim Burton might be a director to remember.Although
has not made a genuine masterpiece, however, his filmography is already rich: "
Sleepy Hollow," " ; Edward Scissorhands, the wonderful "Ed Wood" (Martin Landau is
unforgettable). But remake "Planet of the Apes" was a hard
task.Shaffner 's film was followed by a progression, moved slowly from the
long introduction showing the three astronauts making their way to Through
desolate landscape to the final with impressive shots and Heston
Harrison 's roaming by the sea.Remember how long it took to convince Taylor
zira think he was a man! Here it seems natural to Ari
almost as soon as he sees it, that Leo is not stupid idiot animal.And
which is the last straw, even Tim Roth (a sort of cross between the Shaffner
Cornelius and a pulp fiction baddie) fairly quickly too damn
believes that humans who are too smart for its own sake.
Tim Burton's what it represents, in order to redo the scarcity of good scripts.Pierre
Boulle's book is a gold mine and one could have written a coherent
story out of him, different from the first version.Why not, for example
, introducing the two "astronauts", whose stage open and close
, and in turn the adventures of Leo in a flashback? What about the sample
love between the hero and women-animal? And the son who had? And
the threat posed by this son simian for the race? All these ideas are left over
Shaffner of screenwriters and could have built a strong new
history.
The main shortcoming lies in human beings: here, speaking of English! --
Can reason, which can swim (!) Are (with the exception of bubble head
Warren) smart, so why the hell not tame monkeys?
As for the "Planet of the Apes" (2001). First, let's pretend there is no other
"Planet of the Apes" movie (1968). To do otherwise
invite comparisons and I want to minimize my negative review. My thoughts
/ summary on Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes" remake
is as follows:
The "hero" (Wahlberg), a highly trained and professional astronaut,
openly disobeys his commanding officer to rescue a space monkey.
After being sucked into a convenient local time warp that only happens
appearing outside the space station. The hero freezes its small space
pods for some strange planet, without a scratch on him. He
and immediately runs into some oppressed humans being chased by jumping
murderer apes. The hero becomes a slave, escapes and finds its
enough space station has crashed into the planet and all its friends are dead
. The hero realizes that he is on earth and thousands of years
in the future. With a look of shock (or lack of), the hero said "oh
not, it is not possible. "Then the hero, using some rusty old technology
and a plot twist expected, slows an army of apes,
the fighting stops, and brings peace, love and harmony between humans and the apes.
The hero then hops in its sub-compact space pod and takes off for its own
period of time (going from Saturn to Earth in thirty seconds)
only to crash land again in a planet and discovers the big surprise ending
leaving a puzzled. Watch the film and see what I mean.
In the background of this tale is riveting Helena Bonham Carter,
playing a sympathetic, loving humans, but annoying representative of the apes
equivalent ASPCA / Peter. Tim Roth plays the ultra-violent, bellicose
Thad villain, which flies / jumps through the air with the greatest of ease
(Short of having a coat with an "S"). The other characters are
little more than window dressing for the hero / villain / heroin triangle.
In general, a simple movie with great special effects. IMHO, the film
should have explained more about Thad genetic ancestors of apes murderer,
ape / human history, man's technological failures. It should not have been credible
spacecraft and spacesuits. In addition, the film spends too
at once cute and funny bits ape society.
