This story is a narration from an Australian man who falls in love with two kinds of Candy: a woman of the same name and heroin. The narrator changes from a smart-aleck to someone trying to find a vein to inject, while Candy changes from an actress, call girl, streetwalker, and then a madwoman. Starting in Sydney, the two eventually end up in Melbourne to go clean, but they fail. This leads them to turn to finding money and heroin, while other posessions and attachments become unimportant.

"Candy" is one of those movies where you walk away feeling a little
stunned by the horrible reality that exposes. This is not a nice movie, not a pretty
issue, but as another "drug" film, at least we can feel a
empathy for the main characters, while the horror of addiction to heroin
continues to be represented.

It is this balance that establishes "Candy" apart from many other druggie
pics.The love between Candy and Dan is very real. Affectionate,
painful, hope and without hope, is the heroin that transcends history
extent we really hope all the work for them, although we
taken on the promenade of the very rapid decline familiar with this drug.

much credit for this balance is an excellent history and direction of Neil
Armfeld (more familiar with the theatre in Australia), and some superb acting
Heath Ledger and Abbie Cornish in leads.Geoffrey
Rush has a delicious supporting role as Dan's friend Casper, a mentor who
I suspect it's a little tormented by his own influences.Tony and Martin
Noni Hazelhurst round as the main supports the suffering of Candy
parents, lovers, but helpless because observe your daughter
descent into a world that never knew.

Like drug problems in real life, all the characters enmeshed in the mess
are weak, vulnerable, emotional and ill. They are good and
bad.They blame each other and themselves. They are everywhere
solutions that might work, however, we suspect the ultimate solution is too difficult
.

I suspect that in the coming years, this will become one of the final drug
photos to show teens. Not desperate as Trainspotting, or
anyway melodramatic, like so many other (clean and sober, 28 days etc).
Showing the horrors of drug addiction, while maintaining its
humanity.The ending may be disappointing to some, but the fact remains
to love, hope and uncertainty central to this movie and for anyone who lives with
recovery.
This is a brilliant film with an excellent screenplay, pending
consummate acting and directing.

It is dark but wonderfully romantic. Most importantly, is truthful.
This is an Australian 'Requiem for a Dream ", but with much greater depth.

It may not be traditionally commercial, but
would have thought a movie about two gay cowboys would be?

say well done to producers and the entire team for their work.
I also say that this has inspired me to see theater in Australia
directors for future features.

PS. Abbie and Heath were seamless. So good to see how the talent of these two
working together and come back to Australia.
