One of the most true statements about originality in art comes from
TS Eliot: "immature poets imitate; mature poets steal."
Terry Gilliam is one of cinema mature poets. His "Brazil" has numerous tributes to
other films, ranging from "Modern Times" to "The Empire Strikes Back",
and its plot is more or less similar to "Nineteen Eighty and four. "However, the
Curiously result is fresh and creative.

The best adjective to describe the tone of the film is "capricious."
It is the kind of science fiction film with an almost child
fascination with strange places and events. Rarely has a film been so pessimistic
this much fun. Many sci-fi films from "Brazil" have tried
similar approach, usually with little success. The main problem with
most of these films (such as "The Fifth Element") is that they get bogged down in
plot at the expense of emotional resonance. "Brazil"
avoids this fate: while the film has psychological and thematic complexity,
its plot is fairly simple, and humor, as is extravagant, never basa
throwing jokes. Even the oddest moments have a certain poignance.

The story seems to take place in an alternate world fascist. It is not
"future" exactly. The technology aspect is strange, but hardly
more than anything in our world. The movements are sent through pipelines
in what seems like a kind of crude version of ATM. (One of the film
Nods several silent films were produced after a character tries
things one of these tubes with wadsada paper.)
Pop culture references are positively retro, song title
to scenes from the movie "Casablanca".

The evil of government in this movie is driven not so much because
cruelty by the bureaucratic incompetence, much of which is played for laughs
. However, some of the mysterious scenes see today in our post-9/11 world
, and are good fodder for conspiracy theorists.
Pay particular attention to the scene when the officer boasts that the government is
win its war against "terrorists." The film is ambiguous as to whether there
real terrorists, and we Sneaking
a suspicion that the explosions were caused by the government itself. The plot is
launched a typographical error by the head of an innocent man to be arrested
instead of a suspected terrorist. The film has nothing to do with this man
but a government worker gentle, Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce),
observation that the line of banda. Robert De Niro has a cameo as the
wanted "terrorists" whose crime, what we see, is fazer home repairs without proper documentation.

I noticed that most of the stories are classic dystopian
essentially similar to each other. But "Brazil" is close to gender
in one way psychologically. Sam Lowry is different from the standard
protagonist who rebels against the government because of the noble
reasons. Failure to appear to be any broader goals that its own staff
. He is not trying to make the world a better place. He is only
yearning for a better life for himself, one more exciting and romantic
the humdrum existence that currently occupies, where he is beset by
a dominant mother, a miserable boss, and a deaf work. In the midst of this bureaucratic nightmare
State, which only cares about issues such as
get your air conditioner fixed and stalking a woman who physically resembles
stranger to the fantasy of his wife -- or by what it perceives. The woman,
as played by Kim Greist, appears in his fantasies as a helpless Damisela
over time, flowing hair and a silky dress that sits in a cage while he battles a giant
Samurai warrior . The real-life woman who pursues, also played by
Greist, Butch sports a haircut, driving a large truck, and has
a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth.

It is a testament to Pryce's performance that commands our full sympathy
all the time. We feel for him and go along with the romantic adventure
that attempts to create for himself. His nervous, stammering
is a personality who would have been too easy, however, Pryce
strikes just the right note, especially when you start questioning
sanity of the character. At one point, another character tells him
"You're paranoid, so I have no sense of reality." But that was not
paranoid in that establishment? The scene brings to mind the old joke that goes
"You are not paranoid. Everyone is really get to you. "
inhabits the film such a whacky, surreal world full of strange people and
attractions that Sam Lowry almost seems sensible comparison. The creation of a
just as this character was a fresh, innovative twist to a genre that usually
loses sight of human personalities.
