Peter Parker (Tobey McGuire) can't seem to catch any kind of break. Being Spiderman has brought him nothing but problems as far as his personal life is concerned. Not only that, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) is engaged to astronaut John Jameson, and Peter may lose her forever. Things are so bad for him that he is pushed past his breaking point, so he decides that he doesn't want to be Spiderman anymore, until a freak accident transforms Dr. Otto Octavius into Dr. Octopus, a super-villian with four metal tentacles coming out of him. Peter realizes that only Spiderman can stop him, but of course, problems arise. Mary Jane gets caught in the middle, and Harry Osborn, who still blames Spiderman for the death of his father, Norman Osborn, also the Green Goblin, wants him dead. Spiderman will have to push himself past his limits if he's going to survive.

Before starting, let me say that I thought Spider-Man 2 was superior in every way possible to
Spider-Man 1, but one.
Honestly, I do not know what it was about Spider-Man 2
that I found missing. While it is a better movie with great effects,
great performances, well-conceived plot elements, and beautiful film shots,
still felt "flat" compared with Spider-Man 1. Maybe it was the
fact that Peter had to deliver the mask this time. Or maybe
is that he wants to be with MJ so bad, but can not find the intestinal fortitude
to be happy and a superhero. Or it could be that I expected much more
with a budget of $ 61M increase. Whatever the dilemma, apparently
was considered by another movie attendance since the change that increased
budget was reduced by $ 23m from the first installment.
This was like Superman 2 in which our hero chooses to be a land given to
human being with the girl he loves, discovers that there is a new threat and immediately regretted her decision

While the first Spider-Man rates a 7.4 (IMDb) and received two Oscar nominations and
Spider-Man 2 received none (but curiously, receives a
7 , 9 qualifying here at IMDb) the second installment was definitely top
the original in every way remarkable. However, less crude with a higher budget
and received no special effects as Oscar nominations
lower Spider-Man 1 did, which leads me to believe that the lack
element, regardless of whether may be affected beyond this movie

A cut above the typical movie comics, SM 1 did what this type of
the film is supposed to do: present the main characters, have 'em fight
Super Bad Guy, and then have it all end happily ever after, for the most
. In other words, for the first movie in a supposed franchise,
you have to allow time for the exhibition of the history of the protagonist, even if

SM 2, however, this requirement is not necessary. We have fulfilled
Spidey, MJ, Aunt May, et al. And we are ready to jump into a new story.

cast returns from the first film (well, everyone who survived the first film
), and they all do a good job collectively. Maguire is a perfect choice to lead
; is unassuming, can not really emotive, is stoicism, and
even a little wimpy. All are qualities that plague the characters
both Spider-Man and Peter Parker.
