In the early 1970s, Nicholas Garrigan, a young semi-idealistic Scottish doctor, comes to Uganda to assist in a rural hospital. Once there, he soon meets up with the new President, Idi Amin, who promises a golden age for the African nation. Garrigan hits it off immediately with the rabid Scotland fan, who soon offers him a senior position in the national health department and becomes one of Amin's closest advisers. However as the years pass, Garrigan cannot help but notice Amin's increasingly erratic behavior that grows beyond a legitimate fear of assassination into a murderous insanity that is driving Uganda into bloody ruin. Realizing his dire situation with the lunatic leader unwilling to let him go home, Garrigan must make some crucial decisions that could mean his death if the despot finds out.

"Last King of Scotland" is a slickly made
powder keg of a movie about Idi Amin (Forest Whitaker) most horrific dictatorship in Uganda
the 1970's as seen through the eyes of his
fictionalized Scottish doctor (James McAvoy). Whitaker is mesmerizing the word "go" and
brilliantly shows how a character captivating Amin was charming,
theatrical, paranoid and crazy as hell.
director Kevin MacDonald only alludes to the horrors (300000
massacred), while delivering a music video-style account
free wheels decadence of the regime of Amin, while he still played in favour
his people. Much of the film runs as the first parts of PT Anderson
"Boogie Nights" or any gangster saga Scrorsese:
hyper-edited, without firing representing scenes of humor, violence, sex,
nudity, and indulged too new people with money and power. This has been more
highest concentration had been paid to Amin
instead quite unlike the medical, which mostly comes
to be like a flighty, more educated Twite with fog in good
facts and ideas uncontrollable hormones that lead to it after each hounding
marginally attractive married woman who comes through, including a barely recognizable
Gillian Anderson dressing British accent, and Kerry Washington
Amin as the third wife (duh, Doc!).
About two-thirds of the way through, MacDonald allows Whitaker loose, and
his rampage is impressive. It culminates in a late pulse with force -
white-knuckle twenty minutes to muddle a historic event in relation to Israeli Hostages
with outrageously brutal end of young Scott
stay in Uganda. Once again, it has been more emotionally involved
the doctor had been more worthy of our sympathy. Still, Whitaker is
smoky and unforgettable. The fully embodies the spirit of the
frequently discussed and debated crazy dictator, so much so that when the
closing credits roll and we see a balance of the actual scenes Amin, the more you swear it was
Images of Forest Whitaker playing Idi Amin.
There have been so few pictures that stand out this year. This
the film is one of them. Much of what you see is true, and
occurred in the history of Uganda. Amin's doctor, played by James Macavoy, is the main
fiction in film, but one would think you're seeing a
historic event. Macavoy's character is so real. The doctor grows
thinking free affair, womanizer, a fear, concerned
and enlightened person. The viewer looks through Macavoys
eyes as he witnessed the horrors of Amin (Forest Whitaker) and Chair
regime.
Forest Whitaker, ES Amin in this role. Whitaker is not the silence
sometimes brooding character to remind other films that has been
in. His accent, his face, his emotions and no longer seem to be
Whitaker, but Amin. This film will scare the viewer
because of its realism, and how it builds up a tension that is difficult to bear. The visuals are not
for apprehensive. Go ahead and hide their eyes during
the "hard" scenes. It is still worth seeing this film for the rapid pace
history, realistic drama, a fascinating tale, and for
incredible acting. At the end of the movie the audience is exhausted, but
convinced they saw a good movie.
