Rancher Dan Evans heads into Bisbee to clear up issues concerning the sake of his land when he witnesses the closing events of a stagecoach robbery lead by famed outlaw Ben Wade. No sooner or later, Wade is captured by the law in Bisbee and Evans finds himself one of the escorts who will take Wade to the 3:10 to Yuma train in Contention for the reward of $200. Evans quest for taking Wade to the station is not only for saving for his land but an inner battle that he can be more than just a naive rancher in the eyes of his impetuous and gunslinging son William Evans. The transport to Contention is hazardous and filled with ambushes from Indians, pursuits by Wade's vengeful gang and Wade's own conniving and surreptitious demeanor that makes the ride all more intense.

Being a fan of westerns from a young age, I really wanted to like this movie and I did
. I just love is not because of a few too many plot holes and inconsistencies
. If you are willing to suspend belief and
enjoy the ride, is a very satisfying film full of action, suspense and tremendous acting
showcasing the complexities complicated
men.
Like most are ultimately western, it was a film about the extent
a man. When faced with extraordinary circumstances to what extent will a man
going to do what is right and what separates the price of good and evil.
It is a story of youth with a riveting performance by a young Logan Lerman as
a farmer's son who doubts his father and struggles worth
come to terms with their expectations of what that makes a great man and he
idolize. Being a fan of the TV series Jack and Bobby, is a great
Logan see again and enjoy their work. Da delicate, nuanced performance
and has its own power against some acting
Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.
Russell is the perfect actor to play with what Ben Wade and a depth
humanity to a character who is established from the outset as a dangerous, ruthless
outside the law . There are indications from the outset that Ben is not
his standard villain, and Russell does a great job showing the
shadings to this character, while maintaining the threatening nature of
Ben Wade. There is a touch of sweetness and sensitivity and, although you suspect
childhood injury could have produced a man capable of such
evil, never doubt the perversity of this character is capable of doing.
Christian Bale turns into another intricate image as the farmer, Dan Evans
. Gradually, the layers of truths and Dan revealed until he is
exposed, with all its shortcomings and regrets that threatens to define him.
As a man trying to provide for his family and earn the respect of his eldest son
, gives a captivating performance as an ordinary man
struggling to do the right thing when faced with daunting obstacles.
The interaction between these two fine actors and how their characters
finish in the continuum between good and evil is the focus of the film
. 3:10 to Yuma is an interesting merger between the old style
westerns of yesteryear and new psychological metaphors of modern
movie-making. There are a lot of corpses litter the landscape until
but blood and guts style of Peckinpah film is thankfully missing
and leaves us with a character study wrapped in an action, chase
Shake.
Peter Fonda has a wonderful role as Grizzle age and Bounty Hunter
although I knew he was in the movie that took me forever to recognize
him. I was thinking about the character reminded me of Richard Widmark, but
perhaps there was a hint of Henry in there too. Alan Tudyk
has a nice turn as a peculiar medical and Ben Foster is mesmerizing as the great evil
Sidekick Ben Wade. Many think Ben goes overboard in
characterization, but it is not difficult to see how Follies,
vicious murderer, Prince Charlie. I think that was held back
enough to make the character credible, in an intense crazed, vicious old west
world.
Ultimately the bad guys are more credible to me that the good guys.
There were several instances where I wanted to shout at the screen and
tell the good guys who are doomed because of their inept actions, but
perhaps simply have not seen as many westerns as I have and
not realize these bad guys are truly vicious animals and would not be offered mercy
.
Towards the end is when the legs of believability more concerned
me and the film lost some of its luster. I just do not buy all
contrivances that threw me and for me, made the final
less than satisfactory. My sister, on the other hand, human beings and ending
was indeed mourn, but do not let fear of mourn in front of you. She tends to get overly emotional
when purchasing in history and had no problem
suspending belief and taking into consideration the trip being offered.
If you like the Western world like me, then we owe it to you to support this
western theatre in the hope of the box office will promote greater
westerns to be to produce. If you enjoy great performance and
development of character and the broader context of what makes a man a hero
and what forces drive a man to despair, this film offers
enough fuel for further discussion.
3:10 to Yuma could have been a great movie if it had been cleaned up
some of the holes in the plot and content its conclusion, but all in all, was a
good time at the cinema and, of course, which offers some lively discussion after
. The entire cast was incredibly good, the film was beautifully photographed and
address is kept moving at a good pace

offers a glimpse back in time with some nice old western
improvements. Even if you do not tend to appreciate western,
acting and action should be sufficient to make the time spent pleasant.

then there may be enough to make you want to check some of the greats like High Noon

examining the complexities of man, what makes a man great, and
shades of gray that resides in us all.
