Mammy warns Scarlett to behave herself at the party at Twelve Oaks. There is a new man there that day, the day the Civil War begins. Rhett Butler. Scarlett does not know he is in the room when she pleads with Ashley to choose her instead of Melanie.

I think that when you are watching a movie, one must consider
the context in which it was made.
Barely 10 years after speaking for the first time images created;
less than that after the first full-body color film was created;
near the end of major depression this country never experienced, and
in which almost the only entertainment available for most was
radio or film; Or David Selznik decided to turn the largest pot boiler
successful novel into a movie.
And what is a movie. An impressive colour, the most popular actor mail
its time, perfect music, incredible action scenes, history
only 70 years removed from when it happened, and on and on.
Can you imagine what a store clerk or a farmer or a teacher with experience in that world,
see Gone with the Wind? What was there to compare? 1939 was a watershed
great year for cinema, and this was the largest
produced. Try to see this film as if there were no television, no DVD's,
only a few radio stations, spending perhaps the second to last
quarter owned by you, never having seen this movie before, and you have
what I mean. Master of his time, and still timeless.
The establishment is a plantation in Georgia. The year is 1861, and
sixteen years of age
Scarlett O'Hara is infatuated with the blond, sleepy-eyed Ashley Wilkes -
the problem is, Ashley plans to marry another woman . It does not matter that
any other man in the county is courting a charming Scarlett and Rhett Butler called
Scoundrel is watching his questionable with intent -
she only cares about Ashley.
suddenly, the Civil War, brakes, changes in the fortunes and destinies of
everything.
Scarlett, intelligent, manipulative, charming and proves to be a clever survivor -
but what she has to do to survive? And she never learn which is
that she really loves?
GWTW is one of the most meticulously cast films ever, with the possible exception of
Leslie Howard as Ashley (in their forties, who was quite old
playing a man half that old), every role is perfectly allocated. After you
Vivien Leigh clock can not be imagine anyone else playing
Scarlett, and Hattie McDaniel's strong
unforgettable performance as "Mammy"
offset an academy of his award (the first for an African-American actor).
GWTW the backdrop is the horrible civil war, and at the end
this movie is the story of a woman and a civilization (the Old South) through a war that not
leave one unchanged.
The cinematography is beautiful, memorable. Gone with the Wind was shot
magnificent in its entirety in Technicolor, the scene of the burning of Atlanta
required the use of the eight Technicolor cameras in existence at that time. The pragmatic
may think Gone with the Wind overly dramatic; restless
May
seems too long, action promoted, too subtle. None of this,
however,
alter the fact that GWTW maintains a lasting appeal
as one of the crowning achievements of the century cinema 20. Those who see their
ending as depressing - tragic, even - perhaps miss the point - that
Scarlett O'Hara in his last moment with us, tear-stained eyes lifted in
a sudden, odd burst of hope below all the riots, which
.. . "After all, tomorrow is another day."
