Download Movie This Is EnglandRoland Rat, Margaret Thatcher; Rubik's Cubes, the Royal Wedding; aerobics, skinheads... It's 1983, and the schools are breaking up for summer. Shaun is 12 and a bit of a loner, growing up with his mum in a grim coastal town, his dad killed fighting in the Falklands War. On his way home from school where he's been tormented all day for wearing flares, he runs into a group of skinheads, who against expectations turn out to be friendly and take him under their wing. Soon Shaun discovers parties, girls and snappy dressing, and finds some role models in Woody, Milky and the rest of the gang. But when an older, overtly racist skinhead returns home from prison, the easy camaraderie of the group is broken, and Shaun is drawn into much more uncomfortable territory. Based largely on his own experience as a youngster, this is Shane Meadows' most mature and fully realised film. Handling the complexities of masculinity, violence and race with sensitivity and a lightness of touch, it's hard to imagine a film that would better capture the mood of the time, or that could have any greater an understanding of the allure of being part of a gang.

Seen in: BFI - London Film Festival Shane Medows take pro-Nazi

blurred image of itself. Although we are familiar with the aesthetics
no less fear of terrorist attacks by fundamentalist Muslims
groups, we have somehow forgotten the 'collateral' damage that may arise on the eve of a
Paris suburb of al-style race riot.

This Is England perpetuates the image of a country not far from a
view we are now, but put aside the images sold to the flowering
outside a turbulent and prosperous world of London and a gay man from Brighton.
The film takes us back to the Thatcher years in a clearly marked
north of England mounted by unemployed youth and families financially stretch,
encapsulation of a small landscape of the issues raised by the
nation under the "Iron Lady of the State".

Medows leads us to what might be described as the "deep
England trip." To the north of the subway line black
establish other counties where unemployment and lack of cultural resources are becoming predecessors
of extremist thoughts. Social tensions are increasing, and a new
radical party, the National Front is taking advantage of the situation
mixture of rage and national pride, rallying people around the country

match the style of Mathieu Kassovitz (also director and writer) in
La Haine, historical footage of the era is embedded in between
tables to illustrate the social expression of society. In addition, Danny Cohen

landscape of the characters to take centre stage.

The story develops around a micro-cosmos. The characters
represent the residual model of society, perpetuated in the form of
Shaun (Thomas Turgoose). At a very early age, Shaun
has already suffered the loss of his father in the Falklands War, as well as
face financial difficulties. He is a day Bullinger classmates from school, which
leads him to the status of pariah.

He then becomes covered by a tribe of urban Ska-mod-skin heads. The
group takes him under his wing as if a kind of mascot, although Shaun
quickly becomes a strong character within the group, thanks to its
standing attitude. The group is divided by the prompt return of the old banda
member Combo (Steven Graham) after a brief term in jail. Combo
represents the pro-Nazi skinheads in front of the girl who likes to have fun vandalism
of Ska music and style mod teenagers.

Steven Graham work deserves a standing ovation, far from easy
slapstick popcorn by the yield they produce in snatch (Guy Ritchie).
however impressive its characterization Combo is somehow
overshadowed by Thomas Turgoose first acting role. Although
presented at a later stage to the film as anti-hero,
is impossible not to feel deep in your facial expression and
agree with his early image of innocence.

despite notable performances throughout the rest of the cast,

This Is England crosses the border of the purely British cinema audience
