Bob Harris is an American film actor, far past his prime. He visits Tokyo to appear in commercials, and he meets Charlotte, the young wife of a visiting photographer. Bored and weary, Bob and Charlotte make ideal if improbable traveling companions. Charlotte is looking for "her place in life," and Bob is tolerating a mediocre stateside marriage. Both separately and together, they live the experience of the American in Tokyo. Bob and Charlotte suffer both confusion and hilarity due to the cultural and language differences between themselves and the Japanese. As the relationship between Bob and Charlotte deepens, they come to the realization that their visits to Japan, and one another, must soon end. Or must they?

It has been a long time since a movie has done damage to me how this fact. Perhaps
"wounded" is not the correct word. "Ache" is more like it. As far as I could
completely identify with both characters.
Bob is a middle-aged actor trapped in a life that has lost its joy and
end, doing what "should" be doing (make money doing commercial whiskey
) Instead of doing what he wants to do (plays). And then a
young, beautiful, intelligent woman entering its orbit. On that level alone, with his yearning
mute and sexual tension, I can not identify with him
.
And then there is Charlotte, a student of philosophy of finding itself and its
lost soul adrift. She does not know who she is, does not know what she wants
. His life is a quest for authenticity itself. And I identify with
because much of my life I've been looking
the same thing.
This film is not for everyone. They call it boring, lifeless, limp.
There are people, I realize, who have never experienced this type of
yearning, which has never sought the meaning to their lives and for their own searches
lost souls. They live for the here and now, without giving a thought to
the spiritual aspects of life. A friend said
introverted will love this movie, is extraverts hatred.
I think it is a fair assessment of the area. This film has to do with the interior
lives of two people whose souls connect for a short time a foreign city.
This is a love story rather than bodies, but minds and spirits. Some
this movie will upset. Some of this movie will fazer mourn.
It is very interesting to see all the ratings that Lost in Translation
received in different countries. In Canada is only PG,
while in americas is rated R! And really, the only explanation for
is a brief scene in a strip joint showing some nudity. I really look down
that R rating because Lost in Translation is a
good-hearted movie that should be enjoyed by all ages. Notice how
Oscar during the 2003 season two films that played the "unique special effect:
effect on the audience" card, one of them this movie and the other is
Mystic River. Both are great films, both were rated R in the U.S.,
but only one can carry throughout its history without brutal murder.
So what can I say about Lost in Translation has not been said
million times already? All this is true. It is subtle, down-to-earth, and
allows the public to observe and interact with the characters, Bob and Charlotte
. Both have a life crisis to deal with, and I suppose that if you're
thousands and thousands of miles away from their problems,
makes it easier to adopt an objective look, even if
you continue to do so. Bob and Charlotte trust each other and develop a relationship
. That is what is on everyone, and every scene is precious.
It is a real and true to life type of film. Never heard the following:
"Oh, Charlotte, I am pleased by what I went to Japan. It has changed my life in
so deep and you will always be in my heart. "That's because
that not only is the road that goes in real life. The feeling is there, the characters
know, the public knows this, so it must be left at that
.
So, yes, I love this movie. It is clearly the highlight of
Bill Murray's career and marks the first perfect stand-in
Scarlett Johanson. It is very rare to see a movie that only has an interest in
his characters (and only two of them, at that!) And makes them so
charming, friendly and familiar. This is a great example of
not Hollywood Hollywood films: the well-known actors and producers
go to the roots of independent film making. In an era where half the
movies out there are full of CGI, it is refreshing to see.
My rating: 10/10
