When a devastating hit knocks a professional football legend and quarterback Cap Rooney (Denis Quaid) out of the game, a young, unknown third-stringer is called in to replace him. Having ridden the bench for years because of a string of bad luck stories and perhaps insufficient character, Willie Beaman (Jamie Foxx) seizes what may be his last chance, and lights up the field with a raw display of athletic prowess. His stunning performance over several games is so outstanding and fresh it seems to augur a new era in the history of this Miami franchise, and forces aging coach Tony D'Amato (Al Pacino) to reevaluate his time-tested values and strategies and begin to confront the fact that the game, as well as post-modern life may be passing him by. Adding to the pressure on D'Amato to win at any cost is the aggressive young President/Co-owner of the team, Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz), now coming into her own after her father's death. Christina's driving desire to prove herself in a male dominated world is intensified by her focus on the marketing and business of football, in which all coaches and players are merely properties.

When Oliver Stone is not flaunting conspiracy theories, which actually
arrives to the business of making some really good films. And
Any Given Sunday is definitely one of those.
It is a difficult prospect for me to write about this movie as my favorite
Sport is not baseball and football. But
End business is practically the same. Curiously
I was in Miami last week and saw the house opened the Florida Marlins. Van

Al Pacino joins the group of players who have made outstanding
portraits of sports coaches. This is an honorable tradition dating back
Pat O'Brien as Knute Rockne. I am not sure how they have made Rockne
the figure was seven salaries, but Pacino is the adaptation of the best
way I can.
When I was a kid in New York in the fifties after three
major league baseball teams, one of the great constants was Casey Stengel win
American League pennant for the New York Yankees with Yogi Berra
Behind the plate. The receiver's job is similar to that of quarterback in football
he sees the whole game, and indeed sets the pace

Pacino has this kind of dilemma here. A veteran quarterback in
Dennis Quaid and an up and coming talent in Jamie Fox. Quaid skills are

In my favorite moment in the film. And the lesson learned Fox
Pacino and Quaid is that if the team does not respect you, you do not
Driving winners. And winning is the bottom line.
There are a lot of good results here in minor roles,
symbol of a great movie. James Woods as the slimy medical equipment,
Ann-Margret as the mother of Cameron Diaz, LL Cool J as a defensive lineman
may have had a hit too. And what a stroke of casting
Oliver Stone pulled away from Charlton Heston to make a small role as
Commissioner football. Who better to lead the professional football
the type that brought the Ten Commandments from Mount Sinai.
I think that even non-sports fans can appreciate this movie.
Oliver Stone is one of the most, if not most, passionate filmmakers
work today. He is also a talented filmmaker, which a lot of people seem to forget
. When both his talent and passion are at full capacity,
The results are impressive (SALVADOR, PLATOON, JFK, NIXON). When
passion is still there, but the talent is tripping on his passion and ambition,

Well, as evidenced Any Given Sunday, stone, as in the display of his alter-ego,
Tony D'Amato (Al Pacino), may seem tired, but he still has left in the fight against it.
Many have seen football like war, so it's appropriate
Stone has always wanted to make a film about football. And as Spike Lee did with HE GOT GAME, Stone
wants us to see not only the glory of the actual game (including how
It's hard to win that glory), but also the forces Corrupt that
Impregnando today. After all, censor striking players, and then complain
About those who are too boring, talking about the tradition of each side of our mouth
and demand will update the game from the other , we ask

And to get addicted to drugs, and yet we yell at them to kill each other on the field of

This is a great canvas to cover, and yet, Stone does a very good job of it.
Especially good is the way in which the relationship between D'Amato and his new
Quarterback Willie Beamon (Jamie Foxx) covers a large part of that canvas.
There were two scenes in particular stand out: one where it sits D'Amato
Willie on the plane and tries to talk to him, but could not think of
Anything that does not sound patronizing of Willie perspective (as

assumed that meant something), and the scene D'Amato ' ; s house, where Beamon

Stone is less certain that in other respects. Cameron Diaz does a good job as the owner of the equipment
, but his character is a bit too one dimension at times.
Would have been more interesting here is not only talks about
Money, but the game, it is actually more interesting the way Willie
What touches (perhaps I am biased, but I am a fan of spend more oriented games). And
While I do not believe that the stone is as misogynist as it has charged with the
Past, certainly is evident here. It is one thing to say there are groupies
In football, it is another thing to delight in the sample. There
nice women here, especially Ann-Margaret, the mother of Diaz, who
What proves to be a woman football costs, and Lela Rochon as Willie's
Bride, which is not prepared to have that happen to it (the scene in
party, in which both felt isolated from Willie and the other wives, it

But although it is imperfect, there are still a lot of power here. Except
Lauren Holly, that I am not a great fan of all actors is excellent throughout, especially
Foxx. I am particularly impressed with the behavior of athletes
How actors, including Jim Brown (although he is an actor, so it's not
Surprising) and Lawrence Taylor. And, of course, all football
scenes are terrible and feel real. It's always good when you see on the screen what
You can not see watching the game on television, and that makes Stone here. Call
a touchdown if not all, but a movie that convinces us even Stone
Fighting left in him.
