Esteemed criminal lawyer Sir Wilfrid Robarts has just returned to practice after suffering a heart attack and is supposed to be on a diet of bland civil suits. But the case of Leonard Vole, a charmer accused of murdering a rich middle-aged widow, proves irresistible — particlularly when Sir Wilfrid meets the accused's wife, the remarkable Christine Vole. Christine will appear as a witness: not the defense, but for the prosecution.

Charlie Chaplin was fun. Charles Laughton was ingenious. As good as' Witness for the Prosecution
"--- is Agatha Christie's history, the other actors,
--- expertise Oscar-nominated Laughton is the reason to see this < br> film. What he brings to Billy Wilder's 1957 courtroom thriller
is his enormous talent and intellect. It's a serious story, but the dark comic label
team Wilder / updated Laughton's film "a good courtroom mystery"
"a classic of the genre of the courtroom."
headlining star, Tyrone Power, not sure helps a lot. The anguish on
booted plays as smooth as sandpaper ... and the anguish
is regrettable that emotion has to play for most of the image.
Power has been accused of murdering a wealthy older woman. His wife (Marlene Dietrich)
seems to be doing everything it can to sell him out, appearing as drum ... roll, please
, drummer man ... the star Witness for the Prosecution. Laughton is the
brilliant (and sick) English lawyer defending Power. The plot revolves
'n' becomes a dozen ways from Sunday, as always at Christie's
better job.
Among all the talk of bloody murders, there are operational
jokes about cigars and alcohol. More dark wit --- Laughton character of the poor state of health could cause him
drop dead at any time. Wilder weaves emotions and smiles, as well as any
director. In this sense, it was right supporting cast anchor with
pillars of the stiff upper lip. John Williams and Ian Wolfe (Hirsch
"WKRP"), let alone control-freak assistant Laughton Elsa Lanchester
(also CL real-life wife), are bloody good.
Movies of this type have been stolen so often that students of
"not give away the ending" class are bound to figure it out. I did.
That did not matter because there are still more surprises to come. Through all that
plots, winds Dietrich the most fascinating character. Draft
back and you realize how well it works its performance. But she and energy source are simply
the star attractions in the 'prosecution witness'. The main dish is
Charles Laughton. Taking into account how ironic and cynical
of our society has become, surprisingly bright old pros like Wilder and Laughton
are no more popular today. After this film, have become heroes personal
of mines.
A film I have not seen for years but always remember with fondness
. A classic thriller with all the right ingredients - Power and Dietrich
are spectacular and, at the beginning of the rules (and recent),
the turn is excellent.
Charles Laughton however, provides us with a chuckle as glib ageing
counsel ruled by its supreme cleaning. One distraction that only
joins an excellent plot line.
I can not imagine another movie genre and era, so wickedly
Entangled essential thriller with a "crime of passion" (oops, spot
the plot murderer. ..) Gem. A classic.
A film for lovers of true cinema. Take it from me!
