In the early 1950's, the threat of Communism created an air of paranoia in the United States and exploiting those fears was Senator 'Joseph McCarthy (II)' (qv) of Wisconsin. However, CBS reporter 'Edward R. Murrow (I)' (qv) and his producer 'Fred W. Friendly' (qv) decided to take a stand and challenge McCarthy and expose him for the fear monger he was. However, their actions took a great personal toll on both men, but they stood by their convictions and helped to bring down one of the most controversial senators in American history.

The film is not - as some have suggested - wrongly portray McCarthy
as sub-human monster. His presentation of McCarthy is limited strictly to
thread of history and never hesitate to do so
name calling or character assassination. This is particularly striking given
MCarthy who was a well-seasoned alcoholic and
clearly suffered from a narcissistic personality disorder. He is ripe for parody
because his eccentricities were so pronounced, but this movie is
significantly, even with their hands on the senator of the facts and behaviour. There are neither
allusions to his unusual friendship with Roy Cohn, whose
notorious private homosexual relations with G. David Schin
McCarthy eventually led to the insane accusation that the Army was infested with Communists
. Some have even suggested that McCarthy was not strange to
gay trysts. All this might have made of an explosive - and typical
- "Hollywood" and the film would have been propaganda, shallow
and simply. Instead Clooney has made an intelligent, persuasive,
just mind-film about ethics, high quality and integrity.
"Good Night, and Good Luck" is the kind of film which has aroused strong
views in the forum IMDb. In fact, most critics point
in handling the actual events and what they perceive as
character assassination of the late Joseph McCarthy and the role it played during the
"witch hunt" brought out by the late senator from Wisconsin
. If these points are right or wrong, in the minds of
taxpayers, most seem to ignore the film that criteria,
alone.
In fact, "Good Night, and Good Luck" shows once in the past americas
which served as a model in the way that television show format in which
the news would be shown to
country using new technology to keep people informed. As such, pursuant to CBS's William Paley
leadership, amassed a wealth of talent and became the patron
other news programmes iban to be judged against.
George Clooney, in his second job as director, recreates what he
and his co-writer, Grant Heslov thought of that period at the beginning of
the era of television news.
The film has a documentary style that well serves to illustrate the
story is told. Most of what happens in the CBS studios in New York
during the fifties. The crisp black and white cinematography by Robert Elswit
, the film offers a nostalgic look at things were in those days
. Mr Clooney has included scenes where a black jazz singer interprets
some songs as a rule even though it could have been the program after
following real-time news, and act as a buffer in the

At the heart of the story is Edward R. Murrow, the CBS anchor
in time. Mr. Murrow was much admired for their contributions during World War II
and their broadcasts from London with what the comments on the war on
americas. Mr. Murrow was a giant in the field, all
most admired by Americans, because their integrity and the way they presented their stories,
ranging from the sublime, the ridiculous, as is the case with
the interview with Liberace in Sherman Oaks, where he asked the moderator
about their future wedding plans.
The strong cast assembled for the film is excellent. David Strathairn,
one of the most versatile actors playing the lead role. His take on the Murrow
Mannerisms and how they spoke to his audience
front of the camera is captured in great detail. Mr
Strathairn gives a good performance, but one never really knows much about the man on the road
screen game has been written. Yes, one gets the impression Mr
Murrow high ethics, but as regards to what made him a cross, one has to wait for another biopic
to find out.
The whole cast plays well the leadership of Mr Clooney.
Robert Downey Jr., Patricia Clarkson, Ray Wise, Frank Langella, Jeff Daniels,
and George Clooney are seen in the newsroom, as they portray their
Mr models under the direction of Clooney.
