Maximus is a powerful Roman general, loved by the people and the aging Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Before his death, the Emperor chooses Maximus to be his heir over his own son, Commodus, and a power struggle leaves Maximus and his family condemned to death. The powerful general is unable to save his family, and his loss of will allows him to get captured and put into the Gladiator games until he dies. The only desire that fuels him now is the chance to rise to the top so that he will be able to look into the eyes of the man who will feel his revenge.

The film is the story of Maximus (Crowe), a general who leads the Roman
army to victory over Germany at the beginning of the film. The
dying emperor of Rome, Marcus Aurelius, is watching this battle.
The son of the emperor, Commodus, then arrives with his sister Lucilla, and discovered that Commodus
is fully expected to be announced
the new emperor of Rome in a few days. Aurelio, however, has other plans - he wants fazer Emperor Maximus, and requests that the general who wants nothing more
rather than go home to his family.
went into this movie having seen only Ben-Hur in my class film studies
and having seen an episode of Xena only a couple of weeks before the story was
Marc Anthony and Cleopatra. So you could say I was in perfect
mentality to see a "sword and sandal" film. I was not sure what to expect
, having somehow avoided all the hype that accompanied this movie.
But I was not disappointed.
Gladiator features some wonderful cinematography by John Mathieson.
The battle scenes are very graphic. (This film is not for apprehensive that the
safely.) There were some scenes in particular that really hit me, such as when
Crowe seems to be floating on the ground very fast. Using
color and shades of color added greatly to the atmosphere of the film.
Excellent.
The script was written and be re-written as the filming was going on, yet
not reveal that the actors had no idea how the film was going to
halt when the filming began. He is fantastic. Russell Crowe is
wonderfully cast as Maximus. Many respondents agree that he is now officially
a star. Joaquin Phoenix also showed his worth as emotionally disturbed
Commodus, whose emotion and behavior toward his sister could give anyone the creeps
. Connie Nielsen makes you believe that, as Lucilla, she really is
natural torn between loyalty to his brother and doing what she knows is right
. Oliver Reed, in its latest action, is memorable in his role as
proximity, the former Gladiators who owns Maximus and brings him to
Rome. In short, the actors were brilliant in their roles, has not completed action, but giving
subtle, strong performances.
The script itself is very good. Although some elements are a little hard to believe
- the fact that Maximus is not recognized when he is a slave? --
Film requires a willing suspension of disbelief, that would be happy
meet. (It's really fun not nitpick this film.)
It is true that this film makes quite follow the formula Braveheart.
however, this movie includes some elements, such as cinematography and graphics
incredibly battle scenes (one reviewer likened to
Saving Private Ryan ", only better"), which is spectacular in itself. In general, a
great movie that I recommend highly.
Great story! Great Writing! Great Acting! Directing Great! Big Score!
This film has it all. I particularly enjoyed the humor of the film. Even
although it has a lot of action, there is a subtle elegance throughout the
image that gives great style. The film flows effortlessly from scene to scene
, while at the same time creating the intensity and wonderful
biting their nails with emotion.
The acting in the movie more than lives up to expectations. Russell Crowe
is brilliant in his role as Maximus, the general who became a slave,
who became a Gladiator, who defied an emperor. " Crowe's intense style is perfect for
relentless determination and confidence of Maximus.
Joaquin Phoenix is just as wonderful in his role as Commodus, the emperor corrupt.
plays a great villain, because it is capable of giving the depth of Commodus
showing some frail or vulnerable sides, while instantly transform
to let the relentless nature of its volatile nature
brightness. It also helps that Joaquin has the classic Caesar
see that it works perfectly with his role.
Connie Nielsen is also very good as Lucilla. However, perhaps the two best results
in the film were made by a pair of veterans
acting in support functions. Richard Harris and Oliver Reed were exceptional
what will be remembered as crowning achievements at the end of their careers
. Harris was perfect as Marcus Aurelius, Caesar that ageing
reflects on his life and contemplates how the world will remember him. And
Reed, especially given my personal favorite in the performance of films like
proximity, the trainer of Gladiators. The way they spoke about the life of one of
Gladiators, the splendor of Rome, and the "emotion of the Colosseum"
really adds excitement and anticipation during the viewing of the film.
Gladiator is full of many memorable moments that one would see
more than once to appreciate fully. The emotion felt when I first
Rome is shown in all its wonder and wonder is my favorite scene. But
entire film is a rush! Hans Zimmer provides the perfect punctuation absolute
to capture the different moods of the film. Ridley Scott
sets the perfect tone with its artistic and creative direction. I would recommend it to anyone who can
intensity stomach and enjoy an epic story of the age. Next
to Braveheart, this movie is the greatest of all time!
