From January 1998. Tamworth, England. As the farmer delivers his three pigs that
the local slaughter house, an error and two of the three
make a break for freedom. Butch and Sundance evade the law and put through a
group of hippies sleeping, camping in the forest. After eating some of the

set off cross country. Once the media is kept in the same, the game becomes a national obsession
- bringing the pork hate Wolf in
scene.
This was projected as one hour long BBC special on Easter Monday 2004, and I
is curious enough to give it a go. I knew that the most basic truth
the situation is that two pigs were away from their owners for a day or two and then
were captured. And that's all. However, says more about our lives (
or rather what they think the public wants the tabloids) that the media until
exploded in a great history. Therefore, it is not too big a leap for a writer to take the Mercury
story further and further fictionalise it. After having seen and loved
Babe, I'm not against this sort of thing but it's a problem
that this movie is not just fun enough to do the job.
What I had hoped was a cartoon fantasy story that is enough for children but also
witty and strong enough for adults. Unfortunately this did not happen -
instead
the film tries to open it out in more than a fantasy fiction, albeit with
the odd laugh here and there. The film occasionally embraces the fantasy
point that it's really imaginative, but most of the time
plays do not work. The drama really does not work at all, as, without humor,
only comes across as silly. The film makes a few points about the media and
on the hypocrisy of eating meat, but still care `da widdy animals," but these
not actually work Either because they simply could not tell if
was being sincere or not.
The cast is not that hot either, although the script does not give them much
work with them. Boyd and Pierson are fairly bland (although the latter is
cute) but it is the pig I was more disappointed by. I was surprised how little
that used to get laughs - animatronics, but it was half
good enough to do so. The lines should have been much higher but
were not.
Lucy Davis is one of them and gave me hope (Office, Shaun of the Dead)
but both she and his fellow pork horrible had accents that put me off! Small
functions of Langham, Sayle and Sessions. Brian Blessed is unmistakable and
lends his voice to a more convincing that this terrible thing in Phantom
Threat! Whately was a key figure, but everything he does is the ham until it
evil (I'm sorry - I tried to write this review without a pun, but I could not
fazer!). The should have been a pantomime villain that was fun for him but hatred
not - just lacked bite in some way.
Overall, I really wanted to like this - is a public holiday, is a child
gentle comedy with a great potential for imaginative jokes and dialogue (a la
Chicken Run) but this whole mess things were unsure
with a script and some poor performances by key players. Attempts to use
film references are lazy, obvious and unfunny - Jaws is OK but
the Fight Club is just useless. Lucy Davis has worked with Simon Pegg
so she knows what a big, clever and witty screenplay looks like it, but
made a mistake with this one - and so did I.
