Having disliked intensely the last four or five movies Meg Ryan,
looks: "Against the Ropes" with some trepidation.
After all, the film has received terrible reviews, both critics and
with members of the IMDb. While boxing is my favorite spectator sport
, I do not like enough to "Pay per View" or HBO. So I went into the film
not know anything about Jackie Kallen or the accuracy of the film.
Maybe that's why I liked "Against the Ropes" both. We appreciate the work could
Ryan, Omar Epps, Charles Dutton, Timothy Daly and, especially
, Tony Shaloub were putting on the screen. That
Dutton directed especially impressed me. The deals with the actors and the camera
very well, has a very good eye for composition and color screen. Ryan's
Midwestern accent is at least as plausible as
Kurt Russell in "Miracle" and "Against the Ropes" is a film more entertaining.
however, the best acting applause go to Tony Shaloub as the weaselly
fight promoter. Relatives only Shaloub with work on "Monk" or
"Wings" are going to see a completely different side of him. It Shaloub
threatening, without the use of violence, that's not so easy to make
as some people might think. The ensemble acting here is even better than "Erin Brockovitch
", disinfected another story, so I fail to see why the film
and was praised this panorama. Despite taps Hollywood
this movie is less predictable than either "Brockovitch" or "
Twelve Monkeys", which both received much better reviews.
"Against the Ropes" I am motivated enough to read of Jackie Kallen

things have changed so it is not really a portrait. The
