Soul mates Chris ('Robin Williams (I)' (qv)) and Annie ('Annabella Sciorra' (qv)) couldn't be happier, having married each other and had two wonderful children. Unforutnately, tragedy strikes when they lose them both in a car accident, and then again for Annie many years later when Chris is killed in another accident. What Chris finds is a Paradise unlike anything he ever imagined, where he is guided by Albert ('Cuba Gooding Jr.' (qv)), the first doctor he interned under and is helped to see his children once again. Unfortunately, when Annie takes her life in despair, she does not venture to the same plane of existence. Taking it upon himself to rescue her, Chris ventures into the pit of Hell with Albert and a Tracker ('Max von Sydow' (qv)) to save his wife from the damnation she doesn't even know she is forcing on herself. This is a beautiful story that reminds us that love is stronger than death.

At hell with the critics and cynics. I absolutely love this movie -
is in my top ten (or maybe even top five) list of favorite movies (I saw
at least 3 times in one's own theatre and on DVD). I must admit, I'm one of
States that are not (almost anti-) elitist, "I do not know art, but I know what I like
" the kind of people. I also like really positive, upbeat movies with happy endings
. This does not mean that the "realistic" films are not too big, but there is room for
particularly in the genre moviemaking. Is not there enough depressing
"realism" in the evening news to satisfy even the most jaded
cynical?
I can not say exactly what it seems to me about this movie. The saturated colors of
incredible visual and special effects certainly help. The
acting talents of Robin Williams and Max von Sydow aid. And I loved the
history. Emotionally manipulative it is, but this is one of those movies where I wanted
be manipulated, where he participated willingly.
Apparently, some people suffered, but I was sobbing through much of the film
, and happy to do so. Laugh if you please, say what they want ...
this movie touches my heart.
"Deep" is not well, not terribly. In a metaphysical plane,
is not just a little beyond new age kitsch. Very few of the scenes and after the death
concepts in accordance with the spiritual perspective of any known religion.
But I do not care. Again, if a film only touches my heart in the right place,
can forgive almost anything. This is a fact. 9 / 10.
In addressing the subject of movies often afterlife will
the route of trying to be fun to make viewers laugh or cringe in fear
. With "What Dreams May Come" the film producers have had a more serious level
shows us a vision of a beyond which we must believe in
as much as any other film that can display. Since none of us really we are confident
what happens after death and what it's like for us, we must admit that
there are possibilities that we did not expect. For example, in heaven
this movie is a beautiful place to run each individual dreams, but there
there are still dilemmas.
I'm not sure exactly what the meaning or significance of the film makers were
trying to convey, but there are a lot of possibilities
successfully accomplished. Perhaps, is only meant to be a very profound love story.
This film worked hard to combine its depressing and hopeful elements.
This is a sad movie, but also has a lot of hope in it. It does not seem
fear of death, but that we embrace life before death.
Chris Nielsen takes a trip that was not expecting. I must recommend that
taking with him. You may be surprised.
