The Human Stain is the story of Coleman Silk (Hopkins), a classics professor with a terrible secret that is about to shatter his life in a small New England town. When his affair with a young troubled janitor (Kidman) is uncovered, the secret Silk had harbored for over fifty years from his wife, his children and colleague, writer Nathan Zuckerman, fast explodes in a conflagration of devastating consequences. It is Zuckerman who stumbles upon Silk's secret and sets out to reconstruct the unknown biography of this eminent, upright man, esteemed as an educator for nearly all his life, and to understand how this ingeniously contrived life came unraveled.

Although I enjoyed this movie and that the fairly high rate, I must admit
this was quite a bit of a stretch for most people, and at least four good reasons
: < ; br>
1 - Anthony Hopkins to be a light-skinned black man; 2 - Nicole Kidman
be a white trailer trash person (any person who sees the poor
good!) 3 -- A beautiful woman Kidman as the fall of a great man older
as Hopkins unless it was for money, that is not here, and
4 - Ed Harris' would have been locked up and can not < br> affect things in the end, as shown here.
If you can somehow go all along the credibility of these issues,
have an interesting movie to see on their hands. (A lot of good films
- classics to modern - day - we ask you to suspend belief, so this is nothing new
in movies.)
Once Moreover, I liked the performance of Hopkins, one of the best of his generation
. Only the look on his face are the only ones in this fascinating film
. Kidman is interesting, too, with my only complaint is its
excessive use of the f-word. Ninety percent of them in this film come from its
. Gary Sinise is the good boy-friend who narrates the film.
This is a profound human interest story of a black man who ends -
in an earlier era - posing as a white man and therefore can have a better chance at a successful
career. In the process, who sacrifices his roots, his family and brothers
, which is taking its toll. He is also a victim, ironically
of political correctness on the issue of race. Wow, it
unusual - and refreshing - to see how the PC can run amok and pain
well-meaning people, as demonstrated in this story.
Going into details, could spoil the rest of it, so I will end here
. This is a movie I thought was surprisingly engrossing and if you can resist
the f-word, one I recommend.
There have been a lot of bad press about this movie, and, at one point,
I do not understand why. Of course, I think that both Hopkins and Kidman
was miscast in their respective roles, but at least Kidman
trounced his miscasting and became a very strong, artistically
nuanced performance.
This film, for me anyway, seems a bit theatrical. The camera shots
are often distant, not allowing us to see the players closely.
The script is very weak, allowing players to take the roles and
make their own. In addition, most of the actors give very broad,
exaggerated (but not too) performances. I think that is good
. We live in an era when the theater is losing its popularity and
director of this movie seems to have found a way to bring the movie theater
.
There are some slight defects in the film. Hopkins speaks with an accent Weslh
no apparent reason. The end is a little bit prepared, not terribly
.
but above all, I consider this film to be a work of art. This
certainly made me think about my own life, is very powerful.
