Maximus is a powerful Roman general, loved by the people and the aging Emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Before his death, the Emperor chooses Maximus to be his heir over his own son, Commodus, and a power struggle leaves Maximus and his family condemned to death. The powerful general is unable to save his family, and his loss of will allows him to get captured and put into the Gladiator games until he dies. The only desire that fuels him now is the chance to rise to the top so that he will be able to look into the eyes of the man who will feel his revenge.

The overproduction epic returns with the 21 st century response to Cecil B DeMille
, Ridley Scott and its dramatic history of anger and revenge,

Gladiators, the Gladiators who defied an emperor. "
Once a great Roman general, and as good as adopted son of Marcus Aurelius
Cesar (Harris), Maximus (Crowe) is forced into exile of Commodus (Phoenix), < br> heir to the throne after the death of Marcus. Saved from the death of slavery,
to be bought for use as Gladiators by Proxim (Reed) and ends at the scene of
all scenario, the Colloseum, where he demonstrates his unbeatable as a pretext
"The Spanish".
And with a budget of over $ 100m, Scott certainly delivers the goods.
Gladiator transcends the concept of "successful" that we have become accustomed
in the era of electronics and special effects wizardry and
instead offers a good classic action film along the Spartacus lines
yy Ben Hur. Not only are we involved in an archetypal story that
contains all the classic elements filmgoer one could dream (love, loss,
courage, despair, good triumphing over evil etc. etc.) - also offer a < br> visual feast of cinematic painting after painting -
a rich tapestry of images that are impressive and ultimately visually satisfactory. From the plains of
Germania, the desert of Zuchobar bastion, and, finally, great
Rome itself, John Mathiesion, the filmmaker is commendable
very general for his ingenuity and ability to capture both in the film.
The opening battle scene is magnificent as a cast of thousands of people across the eruption
screen and provide an indication that we are about to see a film that pays
incredible attention to detail throughout its entirety. In all senses, Scott
has created a world for us to Scuttle epic film companies similar
(and budgets) and sends them to its condemnation to the bottom of the murky depths of
history movies where they belong.
The cast is generally strong. Crowe proves himself well suited to the task with great
emotional range and depth of character. His accent occasionally hear me
(like the mish mash of accents in bid - but I suppose that is a legacy of
'internationally caste films'), but this aside, he was well and truly
up to the task. Phoenix is also excellent as the troubled Commodus, as Nielson
as Lucilla, the daughter of Marco that "should have been a son" and
finds herself torn between loyalty to his brother and do what is "correct". The old guard
thesps Harris, Reed and Jacobi (Grachus) are uniformly strong
as supporting characters, and Spencer Treat Clark (Lucius) does a good job
as the young heir to the throne.
Add to this great cast excellent editing and post-production work, and an intricate
soundscape (including a superb score by Hans Zimmer), and
you have a film that, Despite its length, is very tasty and had me in there
from start to finish. A must see.
The film is the story of Maximus (Crowe), a general who leads the Roman
army to victory over Germany at the beginning of the film. The
dying emperor of Rome, Marcus Aurelius, is watching this battle.
The son of the emperor, Commodus, then arrives with his sister Lucilla, and discovered that Commodus
is fully expected to be announced
the new emperor of Rome in a few days. Aurelio, however, has other plans - he wants fazer Emperor Maximus, and requests that the general who wants nothing more
rather than go home to his family.
went into this movie having seen only Ben-Hur in my class film studies
and having seen an episode of Xena only a couple of weeks before the story was
Marc Anthony and Cleopatra. So you could say I was in perfect
mentality to see a "sword and sandal" film. I was not sure what to expect
, having somehow avoided all the hype that accompanied this movie.
But I was not disappointed.
Gladiator features some wonderful cinematography by John Mathieson.
The battle scenes are very graphic. (This film is not for apprehensive that the
safely.) There were some scenes in particular that really hit me, such as when
Crowe seems to be floating on the ground very fast. Using
color and shades of color added greatly to the atmosphere of the film.
Excellent.
The script was written and be re-written as the filming was going on, yet
not reveal that the actors had no idea how the film was going to
halt when the filming began. He is fantastic. Russell Crowe is
wonderfully cast as Maximus. Many respondents agree that he is now officially
a star. Joaquin Phoenix also showed his worth as emotionally disturbed
Commodus, whose emotion and behavior toward his sister could give anyone the creeps
. Connie Nielsen makes you believe that, as Lucilla, she really is
natural torn between loyalty to his brother and doing what she knows is right
. Oliver Reed, in its latest action, is memorable in his role as
proximity, the former Gladiators who owns Maximus and brings him to
Rome. In short, the actors were brilliant in their roles, has not completed action, but giving
subtle, strong performances.
The script itself is very good. Although some elements are a little hard to believe
- the fact that Maximus is not recognized when he is a slave? --
Film requires a willing suspension of disbelief, that would be happy
meet. (It's really fun not nitpick this film.)
It is true that this film makes quite follow the formula Braveheart.
however, this movie includes some elements, such as cinematography and graphics
incredibly battle scenes (one reviewer likened to
Saving Private Ryan ", only better"), which is spectacular in itself. In general, a
great movie that I recommend highly.
