(mystery, thriller)
In 1950-something New York, an adventuresome free-lance photographer finds himself confined to a wheelchair in his tiny apartment while a broken leg mends. With only the occasional distraction of a visiting nurse and his frustrated love interest, a beautiful fashion consultant, his attention is naturally drawn to the courtyard outside his "rear window" and the occupants of the apartment buildings which surround it. Soon he is consumed by the private dramas of his neighbors lives which play themselves out before his eyes. There is "Miss Lonelyhearts," so desperate for her imaginary lover that she sits him a plate at the dinner table and feigns their ensuing chat. There is the frustrated composer banging on his piano, the sunbathing sculptress, the shapely dancer, the newlyweds who are concealed from their neighbors by a window shade, and a bungling middle-aged couple with a little yapping dog who sleep on the fire escape to avoid the sweltering heat of their apartment. ...And then there is the mysterious salesman whose nagging, invalid wife's sudden absence from the scene ominously coincides with middle-of-the-night forays into the dark, sleeping city with his sample case. Where did she go? What's in the trunk that the salesman ships away? What's he been doing with the knives and the saw that he cleans at the kitchen sink?

Not only Rear Window (RW) have Alfred Hitchcock's trademark ingenuity,
suspense, and romance (with a touch of friction) in spades, but
is one of its most well-prepared, cleverly stages movies, in fact,
even though RW se basa on a Cornell Woolrich story, I can not imagine this
story that said the most effective way in any medium other than cinema.
However, the technical achievements (more entertainingly
explains on the DVD of the documentary) would be nothing without the participation
characters. James Stewart's neighbors are interesting enough to justify
their own movies, and besides providing ironically
microcosm of New York life (the only thing on the date is
lack of air conditioning), reflecting all possible outcomes for something
stormy romance set in motion shutterbug between Stewart and Grace Kelly
bright as its high-end fashion Maven inamorata. As Brent Spiner
said, while hosting a show on TNT RW, the real perversion of
Stewart movie is the reluctance to commit to the irresistible Kelly!
In fact, one of the things I like about the film is the way that shows
these two very different people to learn gradually
commitment and work together. The spicy final shot shows a woman can have a happy
relationship with a man without submerging his own personality -
refreshing for the years 1950! Great supporting cast, too, including
Wendell Corey, Raymond Burr in one of his last bad guy's functions before
PERRY MASON, and the scene of theft Thelma Ritter. Indeed, the restored
special edition DVD RW was developed just in time to include
Georgine Darcy ( "Miss Torso"), then one of the last surviving cast members
. Darcy died earlier this year, she will be missed.
One of Hitchcock's greatest masterpieces, "Rear Window" is a deep and entertaining
classic with many strengths, and a little bit of everything. A fine of
order history is combined with the romantic tension in the main plot, and
a large number of sub-plots, some humorous and some moving, all with many
psychological nuances. The main characters are portrayed wonderfully
and full of life. The seemingly simple adjustment in an apartment complex is
developed in a world full of intrigue and sometimes disturbing
possibilities, and apparently this average neighborhood comes alive with a wealth of detail
visually sumptuous and interesting secondary characters.
This is the kind of film that (like many of Hitchcock's largest cinema)
is very flattering to the viewer. The director assumes that his audience will pay attention
close enough to appreciate the many subtleties with
which has filled the movie. It rewards both careful and repeated viewings
here because it is much more than simply a plot of order, as good as that
history is in itself.
During the first 30 minutes or so, just to know the characters.
Jimmy Stewart gives one of his best performances as a photographer
recovering from an injury, forced to spend several weeks watching from his apartment window to the lower
dramas in the lives of their neighbors. Grace Kelly is
ideal in the role of his girlfriend perfect, it can never find a way to break the reserve
Stewart. The study of their relationship would
made a good film in itself. Almost every action and every word
between them is filled with meaning, and what they see in other people's lives
is an interesting reflection of the tensions and possibilities in their own
present and future. Thelma Ritter is wonderful as a colorful, no-nonsense nurse
that constantly casts some light - sometimes unwanted - in what is happening
between them. The action and suspense that occur later
serves largely as a catalyst that resolves some of the important issues between the two
.
After getting to know the characters and their world, things start to happen, as
Stewart becomes engrossed in some of the things he has seen. The moral and ethical concerns
to encroach on other issues are intertwined with
most pressing questions about what may have happened in other
apartments, and since then tensions se basa steadily. It leads to a riveting
climatic sequence full of suspense, and even more significant
our awareness of their deeper meaning to the main characters
.
There is much more that could be said, but should see this for yourself.
It is a classic that will be enjoyed not only by fans thriller, but by someone who appreciates carefully
films with a lot of depth
.
