(comedy, romance)
Bullock stars as Lucy Kelson, Chief Counsel for the Wade Corporation, one of New York City's top commercial real estate developers. She's a brilliant lawyer with a sharp, strategic mind. She also has an ulcer and doesn't get much sleep. It's not the job that's getting to her. It's her millionaire boss, George Wade (Hugh Grant). Handsome, charming and undeniably self-absorbed, he treats her more like a nanny than a Harvard Law grad and can barely choose a tie without her help. Now, after one year of calling the shots-on everything from his clothes to his divorce settlements - Lucy Kelson is calling it quits.

Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant hearken back to classic screwball comedies
in a very shallow if something romantic film that accentuates
laughter and emotion over the claims wonderfully - even when
is not particularly witty or Anti-gut.
Bullock plays Lucy Kelson, a committed leftist with a lawyer
immaculate Ivy League background that fights the good fight against heart
developers of lower Manhattan and the outer neighborhoods.
drift of complications when you are working for one such figure,
George Wade (Grant) in exchange for preserving a Coney Island landmark
near his childhood home. Wade is not a bad guy, but it depends on
frightfully Lucy around. When it seems possible
might finally get clear of him, she begins to have second thoughts about letting him go
.
two things I really like about this movie. One is the chemistry of
Grant and Bullock. Bullock takes the butt of a variety of
slapstick with a rare taste for a beautiful screen star. She seems to have inherited the mantle
Doris Day Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan,
although in a way better than either of those two screen stars. It is a pity that
already shown no interest in maintaining it. Grant plays outside its
very well in a role that could play into his dream - and sometimes seems
do, but in a good way. He has a way with a casual
line that reminds me of Roger Moore or David Niven in his best time, and
shows that is increasingly comfortable in a strong on-screen presence after
years of cabotage national search and charm. IMDb.com If correct, he got
paid $ 12.5 million for it, because if it is somewhat too high, but he is probably the
a guy that can do so pleasant Wade, to the point
where you're happy in their shenanigans Lucy to keep his side.
The other thing is the backdrop New York City. There are some eye-popping visual
courtesy of legendary cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs, like bridges
illuminated as Christmas trees in the background, while Bullock has a drunk
time with the subsidy on board his yacht. Another scene features a photo helicopter
Manhattan by the Hudson, with a nice wink to 9 / 11 not
imposed on the viewer, but is there to the notice. (
This is the first film shot in the city after the tragedy.) You can compare
"Two weeks of ads" with the classic romantic comedies like "What's Up Doc?"
or "Bringing Up Baby." Not that is so good, but the goal is similar
insofar as it strives to entertain more than play with the Heartstrings.
Well, history is little. We never really get an idea of Kelson's
duties with Wade, except when it comes to be drawn to select wedding
ties. Her boyfriend is hardly absent. The
supporting cast is not well developed, with the exception of Robert Klein and Dana Ivey as
parents of Lucy. (Klein is especially wonderful.) Alicia Witt is
spellbindingly beautiful as Kelton aspiring replacement, and she plays beautifully
outside the main partner, but she suddenly thrust into the role of
great plot simply for convenience, and is discordant. Too many other functions
secondary, as they are, too.
The script, the director Marc Lawrence, has its share of lame
a line, but maintains a constant, cheerful tempo that distracts from the film
deficiencies at least a little and focus on its main strengths
, Bullock and Grant. The address of Lawrence is equally solid.
I love the little bit of business between Bullock and Grant, as
when they collect, compared to the other plates at Fraunces Tavern, or when
refused his offer of a sidewalk kebob, calling it a " pulp palette. "
The scene that sticks out most of it is a party outdoors, using a
beautiful gown of tulle and a clown nose. This is a film that makes a serious
verge of being ridiculous and glamorous all at once, and it works.
If all romantic comedies were so committed to being entertaining,
would be much easier for us kids to sit through them.
I read with amusement the comments of others. I bought this movie on DVD and
have in my normal rotation (along with others like me).
I thought that the pairing of Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock worked very well.
I did not enjoy this film for its social significance, not what I watch
for movies. If you like humor and adults can appreciate the nuances
then you
this is quite pleasant. This is Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant in
their best. Some of my favorite scenes include one in which Sandra Bullock has
eaten too much and has to go to the bathroom while they are trapped in a
bridge in New York City. Adding music "Taking care of business"
was really a stroke of genius. The "Bobcat Pretzel" scene was very funny. The
intervention of the corresponding music adds much to
results.
