Patrick McGrath's novel has been faithfully translated to the screen
Patrick Marber, and conducted with great care by David Mackenzie. The film
The basic idea is to what extent a woman can go to
fall passionately in love with a man crazy. Mr Mackenzie
seems to be in complete control, as he leads us on this trip something erotic
to show us what makes Stella losing his mind. If you have not seen the film,
perhaps you should stop reading here.

The action takes place in England in the fifties. The
aspect of the film fits perfectly with the story thanks to photography faded
Jules Nuttgens created for the film. The family of Raphael reaches a
insane Asylum, where he has been hired for an important position. Since
for example, Max must attend all because it looks as if he

are bored with their surroundings and with her marriage. There is nothing
between Max and Stella in a form of passion.

When Edgar, one of the prisoners is a little freer throughout the
institution, is assigned to help restore the green house that belongs to the house
occupy the Raphaels, immediately develops an attraction to
Stella. This young woman woke up in a sexual frenzy
because the way that Edgar makes you feel something that appears is
lack their own marriage.

The problem is compounded when Peter Cleaver, the doctor ambitious
seems to have left out in favour of Max, she realizes what is happening
between the two lovers, but is too late to react to Stella, or
change forms, has already been smitten by something that is more powerful than
its own decision to stay away from Edgar Follies. In a
Thus, there is a hint of homosexuality, Cleaver could also have
feelings of the man crazy, but is in control, may curb their own
impulses.

Mr Mackenzie was excellent acting of all directors at
film, especially Natasha Richarson, like Stella, is perfect for this role
. Ian Mcewan, the distinguished English actor, makes a great PETER
Cleaver. The surprise of "Asylum" proves Marton Csokas, who plays Edgar
. Hugh Bonneville, as the cuckolded husband Max, is also quite effective
. Judy Parfitt, Joss Ackland and Gus Lewis are in
support functions.

Mr Mackenzie has directed with great style, as seems
understand these characters.
Patrick McGrath's novel 'Asylum' was more a poetic elegy on
frustrated love and lust that the screenplay by Patrick Marber ( "Closer")
directions. The impossibility of that history, when McGrath of the poetic prose
is extracted, surfaces and the nuances of a dark love story
are diminished. Despite this the film is a worthy, strange story with a fine
loans issued luster to it.

Time is the decade of 1950, and the place is a mental institution in the
outskirts of London, where Max Raphael (Hugh Bonneville)
brings his wife Stella (Natasha Richardson ) And young son Charlie (Gus Lewis)
to begin his tenure as a psychologist. Asylum is dark, dank and foreboding,
a place where the wives of doctors are expected to behave and be bored silly
in conclaves and teas, all led by director Jack (Joss Ackland
) Stuffy and his wife Bridie (Wanda Ventham). The sinister Dr Peter
Cleaver (Ian McKellen) said the new partner with suspicion, as
who are their "competence" in the director's ascent. Peter is
coldly brilliant and only concerns himself with his' pet patient '
Edgar (Marton Csokas), a handsome but dark sculptor who is institutionalized
for brutally murdering and dismembering his wife and for which Peter
seems to have a sexual attraction.

At no time Stella is boring, not even able to help your cleaning
Madam Rose (Sara Thurston) in household chores. Stella sees Edgar and a mutually
attraction is palpable, and soon enough to act
start its long frustrated lust in the greenhouse is the renewal of Edgar.
Peter and other staff members expect the matter, but when circumstances
surface Max ready to shame his wife behaviour explodes.
Edgar escapes Asylum to live with his old friend Nick (Sean Harris) and
long before Stella discovers his whereabouts in London and begins
allocations there under the pretext of shopping trips. Ultimately are
Edgar responds to demands to leave his family and live with him, all the while watching
Edgar plunge into the same mental state
that preceded the murder of his wife. Peter tirelessly sought
partner, Stella finds and returns to her husband that triggered
his job because of his dalliances. They move north of Wales
a little life, Edgar follows, and in a short time the couple meets with
disastrous results. The mind of Stella is broken and she sits and watches tacitly
your child drown, and as a result of it is returned to
Asylum as a patient. The end is gloomy and somewhat unexpected and
links love story abnormally focused on a circular closure.

Filmed in the atmosphere of dark tones cinematographer Giles Nuttgens
the history of humor remains bleak. The cast is excellent with the majority of
honors going to Ian McKellen in one of his usual
very nuanced performances. Natasha Richardson is credible as the tortured Stella
and Hugh Bonneville is rightly cold and distant. Marton Csokas found
dark inside and Edgar is understandable that the
source of attraction for both Peter and Stella. The director David Mackenzie ( "Young Adam ')
needed to pay more attention to the issue, a problem that makes this
History drop choppy and disjointed. Failing that 'Asylum' is a
of suspense, the tragic history of Asylums people create for themselves.
But, oh, by the poetry of Patrick McGrath ... Recommended. Grady Harp
