Internet love connections and mail-order brides rarely ever work out, and John (played by Ben Chaplin) should have known. Having never been lucky in the game of love and tired of waiting for the perfect woman to come along, John decides to take his chances and orders a mail-order bride from Russia online. At first, things seem perfect: his new bride Nadia (Nicole Kidman) is a gorgeous woman, and although she may not speak much English, her skills in the bedroom more than make up for any communication problems. When Nadia's 'cousins' unexpectedly arrive to celebrate her birthday, John is drawn into their web of corruption and crime.

This film has played better as a romantic comedy. Instead, it
neither one thing nor another. All performances are good, but
somehow faded brand. More or less like a satire of an Alfred Hitchcock thriller
. The plot was too silly for a thriller, the characters are caricatures
and uptight bank employee se han ido
to the police immediately demanded cash. As a comedy, which could have come away with a plot
the equally absurd and ludicrous ending, but as a thriller
simply fell flat.
Nicole Kidman can successfully play the type of girl who could be a real head turner
if not dressed as garbage, combed hair, was
washing, lighting and stopped a cigarette from another. The scenes of his
puffing away on a cigarette dangling from casually beside his
mouth is hilarious. She probably replaced trail of perfume for
deodorant. The two Russian accomplices were also good, and Ben Chaplin
was duly uptight as the "victim". At first I thought it was too handsome
to get a bride by mail, but he has done a geek who
have been too predictable. There are many successful and handsome men
that only seem to strike out with the ladies.
Overall, I would rate this well if they have nothing better to do
.
For a film that has little publicity, and few people have heard,
this was pretty good. It is another of these modern times
British crime movies that are extravagant ( "snatch", "Sexy Beast", etc.). It is not as wild
"snatch" but it is interesting and has some rough < br> characters.
also has a somewhat corny and predictable but which ended in early
the show - not later - has some neat twists to make it very interesting
for the first time viewer. Basically, this is a low-key British male who sends
outside Russia "mail order brides" that winds up with the help of two Russian
male friends, providing a couple of big surprises .
Ben Chapin and Nicole Kidman co-star, and are very good as are Vincent Cassel
and Matthieu Kassovitz as the Russian Kidman cohorts. This is a
different types of film, well acted. Kidman proves once again that
is much more than a beautiful face.
