In a futuristic world, a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston (Bale) is a top ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist the rules. Whe he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-altering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it.

I've seen this movie 5 times (is the nature of satellite television) in
last week and it is true that the catch ... you've lost something or see something new
with each successive viewing. This film is well ahead of his time
, and much better than over-valued Matrix. Bale is always
exceptional, so is its "Metroland" co-star, Emily Watson. Perhaps
is the Anglophile or Brit-Shake fan in me, but I must say that the
added the presence of Sean Bean and Angus Macfadyen, but confirms all
preeminence of the United Kingdom acting in film quality. Accompanied by
very appropriate techno-music, the action sequences are fast and
Euro-striking, heavily influenced by Jan De Bont - different from
strangers, said, "suspended string puppets" ; Thing that apparently
passes through the martial arts these days. (I forget Bruce Lee)
anyway, if you have not seen, give this a shot. If you already have &
not impressed, take a look at it again. It will grow on you. See if you're inclined
is presented to work the next day looking and acting very much a
"cleric" who miss a dose of Prozium.
I went to see "Equilibrium" without the knowledge of the film other than a
synopsis of two lines of a local newspaper and movie theater in the cartel
lobby. As usual, I was practicing my theory of "lower expectations."
Expect a movie to be horribly ugly early, so I can not be disappointed
. I was not disappointed.
At the end of the film could not even sit in my seat. I felt the urge
to exit the world and proclaim the total awesomeness
"Equilibrium". Such words as "Sweet", "Crazy" and "Fair" came successively
my lips in quick succession when I talked about the movie with my friends
.
Not since the "Fellowship of the Ring" I wanted to sing a film of
praise. And I mean literally SING. "Equilibrium" could and should be
the sleeper hit of the year. The film's action sequences turn to
blood and the adrenaline pump as though he were riding a roller coaster. The
art style, although minimal, and hence, perhaps confused low budget by some,
is actually quite successful in portraying a totalitarian society and Emotionless
. He is also excellent, and very possibly the best thing
have seen action in a movie in a long time.
While the nay-Sayers say that the film is not too original loans
elements of its history and premise of "Fahrenheit 451" and "Brave New World
" These complaints can be ignored as the film adds a sufficient amount of
its own history and style to make comparisons plausible in basic premise
only.
After all, like any film, "Equilibrium" is meant as entertainment.
And entertain it does. It is not as well. It mixes action and plot
important and original style of doing an excellent package. See
