"Chop Chop" Frankie Carbone (Armand Assante) has made a career out of stealing cars for the mob in Chicago. An attempted assassination by a mob boss goes badly and Frankie retaliates, only to wind up in the hands of the Feds. Frankie agrees to testify against the mobsters and his life is suddenly worthless - unless he submits to going into federal protection. The FBI gives him a new name - Howard Akers - and relocates him to a sleepy middle-class suburb in Little Rock, AR. Howard catches the attention of his lovely neighbor, Leigh (Angela Featherstone), a bored fund-raiser for a non-profit zoo whose husband, Dennis (David Lipper), is having an affair - and she knows it, but she doesn't know it's with her hot-blooded sister, Bootsie (Dina Meyer). Leigh becomes friends with the enigmatic Howard, but Dennis and Bootsie see an opportunity to earn the million-dollar bounty the mob has put on his head by turning him in to the mob.

How do I get to scripts anyway? Why a good actor Armand Assante as
according to this brain-dead piece? I hope that is paid
well. This could not have read either stink.

This film had so many holes, I will not bore with all of them (each scene appears to have several
) - bad accents ( a head mobster
sounded like it was not LA Jersey, or perhaps even Canada) - annoying
banda sonora. The "comedy" aspect - like a chick who sticks his heel
bomb in a boy's face was not funny or credible. This same
lady who had absolutely no compunction (she kills her brother-in-law to
the end of that scene for some reason or another that is not really explained
* * and she is sleeping with the boy) later in the film
she decides to sacrifice herself for the same sister - huh?
There are also a bit of golf is supposed to be funny - that may have been a little funny
the first time, but when you strip it bit by the end
everything they did was collect eyes rolling moans in our small audience.
The uniform was terrible except for Armande - in fact, the film is almost watchable
during her scenes. To think that someone in this forum
said this garbage was better than the "Whole 9 Yards"!
Save your time, watch an episode of "Sopranos" or, better still
see "Whole 9 Yards."
"Federal Protection", a vanilla middle of the road action / drama with the feel of
tv direct production, tells of a chop shop swaggering racket
(Assante) who is from Chicago Stake the federal witness protection program burbs
in Little Rock, AR, where he is too easily recognized by
its neighbours one of whom is responsible for the other while trying to extort
Money for the Mafia to give it. Obvious, predictable, contrived and generic
with some bloody shootouts, almost no sex, no nudity, and very little
chemistry, "FP" is strictly nominal no-brainer entertainment. Save
expectations low and enjoy.
