In the 60??s, the Puerto Rican Carlito Brigante, the Afro-American Earl and the Italian Rocco become best friends while in prison. When they are released, Rocco intermediates a heroin business with a family of the Italian Mafia leaded by Artie Bottolota Sr. Carlito negotiates with the lord Leroy "Hollywood Nicky" Barnes the area where the trio could operate in his neighborhood and sooner the three friends become powerful. Later, Carlito dates and has an affair with the beautiful Leticia. When Earl decides to move to Barbados with his girlfriend and leave the heroin business, his stupid younger brother causes a situation with the Italian mobsters, and Carlito and Rocco have to resolve the mess to save their lives.

Where do I start. I heard this film was leaving and I was very
insane. I am a big fan of the original Carlito's Way and
when I learned about this, I thought it would be like almost all other
sequels coming out of Hollywood. I thought it would be bad.
Boy was I wrong, this movie is much worse than I expected. We are not saying all
sequels are bad, but that's the problem with Hollywood these days,
make too many sequels and remakes and haste. This was not a theater
release is a DVD. However, in my opinion, there is no reason at all for
that this was done. Having heard of this movie was in progress
, after hearing Pacino was not there. That immediately
killed any chance this movie has to be good. Why this cheque
film then some of you may ask? Well I have had the opportunity to see
so I did. I not only watch movies that I have high expectations of
, I had low expectations in this course. I just wanted to see if there was something
as appropriate. But if any of you reading this
Carlito's Way is a fan, you know a lot of history in the first
one has to do with him going to jail.
* * UNDER THE VERY spoiled I wont ruin anything, because this can really make
you do not want to waste 2 hours watching this garbage. Everything you say is
-in the final of Carlito's Way 2, we do not see Carlito go to jail.
Now, I do not know about any of you, but I would have thought a prequel to
Carlitos Way to show how they ended up in jail. Even I had some
interest in seeing what really happened.
Now, this is not my only problem with the movie. The actor who plays
Carlito was not as bad a job, but he could not have saved this film if
tried. There is not even all those little things that should be thrown
that there Carlito's Way fans wanted. You do not see any appearance of
Kleinfelder and other key characters in the first,
I would have liked to see something like that. Worse still, it
Luis Guzmán is in this movie, does not play the same character as
plays in the first film. Big mistake on their part, why cast the same
actor for a different character, which made the film worse than it already was
.
In a nutshell, I am a fan Carlito's Way, this new
directly to DVD is a disgrace. If you're a fan, not to see this movie comes to
with high expectations. This film basically did nothing for me, and
is definitely a movie that will not be collected on DVD, or watching
never again.
Why oh why people take good material and feel the need to change
somehow? After reading the book on which this movie is supposedly based on a
couple of years ago, I can say that there is little or no
the original book. I went into this movie with low expectations - I knew
telemovie would have a crappy feeling to it - but does not meet these
.
This is not a prequel - the only connection it has with the original
is the name. This is not the story of Carlito Brigante, is the story
a completely different character who has given the same name. They just totally
spat in the face of every fan Carlito's Way
there; adding insult to injury casting Luis Guzmán, which plays a crucial
character in the original movie, a different role.
What is most disappointing is that now that this movie was not made another film
was addressing the original without touching the material
the book Carlito's Way - something I really would have liked
seen. I felt the same way about Chopper - have four books and
as the value of interviews fantastic fiction and non-material
could have made a brilliant biography of Australia
the most dreaded underworld figure, but he did a ho-hum film about a deranged, but strangely
pathetic small-time thief (although Eric Bana's performance was spot-on).
Now we will never get to see real Carlito's initial ascent and descent.
The three stars is because, as purely as a stand-alone
Shake, is not so terrible - there are some decent performances (Jay Hernandez is
Carlito, but could not be good in other roles) and
story is not so bad. Even Puffy Combs suits their role. But they
totally misunderstand the nature of the underworld at that time (I am a little
a crime-nonfiction buff) - something the original movie and the book is entitled
(having been written by The prosecutor then and now
judge Edwin Torres).
The fact is however, it is not a stand alone - is perhaps the most disappointing prequel
never filmed.
