A strange new film sub-genre has recently emerged:
dramas of late middle-aged starring original cast members - "
Not Ready for Prime Time Players" - from "Saturday Night Live" ;. Steve Martin's
* * Store, based on his novel, is the latest entry. One wonders,
with great sense of fear, what will come out below: Dan Ackroyd as a lone
widower facing prostate cancer? Jane Curtin as outgoing
waitress who faces a choice between paying their heating bill
or continuation of its ZOCOR recipe? Chevy Chase fighting an addiction
Viagra? Obviously, every time Bill Murray of existential anguish
is not his alone. The baby boomers have officially turned 60 this year.
What this means for the rest of us is that we will have to cope with old age
with them, given this generation of fans watching the navel. Wait a
lot of movies in the coming years on the theme of ageing
gracefully or otherwise. You might even have a sequel * * The Big Chill,
in which the characters will pass to her grandchildren "
wives or husbands.
Because, as Steve Martin makes clear, free love is still an option for
these old hippies. The game Ray Porter, an incalculably rich
computer tycoon who divides his time between Seattle and Los Angeles.

While in LA, going to Saks Fifth Avenue and buy a pair of elegant black gloves
, becomes smitten with girl it sells gloves, and somehow
gets its direction and sends the gloves to his apartment along with a note asking his
dinner. Claire Danes' Mirabelle, a reserved
transplant Vermont, is the perfect prey for this Rouen. Martin
Mirabelle contrasts with one of his coworkers, classless, slutty
Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, the type that would be too cautious cynically
actually fall in love with the elderly. Because, despite the early Ray
protest on the contrary, Mirabelle devotedness
worship is exactly what he wants from this relationship of convenience.

I am afraid I am not buying any of this. Martin makes quite explicit
Ray a monster, but then leave their way to make sure we like him
. After all, he takes Mirabelle to the doctor when you're depressed and later

in slack-jawed idiocy, leaving in its wake, Pig-Pen as a cloud of

drives a crappy car. Get the picture? Later in the film, Jeremy becomes a mature adult
after listening to affected self-help tapes while touring as a roadie

novel with a possible movie in mind that he stars as Ray -
and, if so, what an impressive display of meanness, not to mention
pure egomania. Some competition, eh? Are Ray and Jeremy are really
options for a beautiful girl in her twenties:
60-year-old roue and a slacker who behaves like a child 12 years?
You know, French films often deal with this issue, but the girl
there is a reasonable alternative between a still-vital handsome
professionals in its forty-one handsome, charming guy. In
* * Store, is soft, either King Midas Social Security or age
a bum. Give me a break.
Lastly, you get the sense that it's really all about money for
Steve Martin. A lot of name-dropping is here: Armani,
THE famous restaurants (Ray and Mirabelle eat to bring in Ray of SPAG's
elegantly post-modern house), and so on. Do not forget Jeremy
transformation in the name of designer white dress. Martin could not even
come with a false name to Saks. If he was trying to be satirical
on crass commercialism, it must have sailed over my head: Ray
the comforts of life are presented as an option for glamorous
Mirabelle, if only to play along. Martin, on a third person -
narration, summarizes the action of the film at the end suggesting
Mirabelle have stayed with Ray where his beloved had only a little more
. It turns out that, to modify Paul McCartney, money can buy ALMOST
she loves. Never happens in this Baby Boomer than a healthy,
healthy, decent young man might want to build a life with someone his own age
. * Store is a pathetic fantasy that is not as macho
aware of this fact because it thinks it is.
2 of 10 stars - the second star earned by some occasionally
fantasy direction of Anand Tucker.
Only saw him ... Wow! What an excellent film! Several appointments appropriate
come to mind: There is hope for love, yet! I could be a guy and everything, but it is definitely
handkerchief while a couple of times during this movie!
I'd like to get the only negative observation of how the
start, I'm Steve Martin could have omitted some of the appropriations voice,
or stopped before that gives us some credit for
appreciate the situation without having to spoon feed us where it is not.
If that had been omitted would have been perfect. -- I realize,
however, today number (read that as "stupid") society
some of the people may not get the whole story, so I suppose that people should think
make allowances for him trying to put his point across them, but we must go
.
This is a great date movie love. You can even expect to marry
shortly after you see it with a partner! We also hope that raises questions
in their relationship. When you go with him, is going to go anywhere
, etc.
In case you have not seen it, here's a quick summary plot: It's a bit romantic one
story of a girl in a job
quite expensive department store that dates two types that are very different. First, the
young, uncouth, immature and impulsive boy. Then, a rich and smooth, intense and sophisticated type
(Steve Martin). Basically this is a morality tale that puts
in its various situations that puts the audience for their sympathy
side. It is unfair, how it is, and if someone is inspired
to be more or less like the characters, more truthful and honest, it is so
have served, and entertained at the same time.
That's what makes it so great.
is one of those films that leaves you feeling that you are
a better person than when you entered the cinema.
