A Michigan-lensed horror film with John Saxon and David Emge
( "Flyboy" DOTD), this shows a potential but eventually
just falls apart. In the 1960's, Professor Jones (Saxony) is conducting an experiment in some
Coeds horrible that goes wrong. Development
a drug that turns them into mutants. The stands (or so we think) and
flash forward 20 years where everything begins again with 80 students.
This is a true rarity. I can not for the life of me remember what the drug was developed
Saxon supposed to do. On the positive side, Saxony has a
interesting group of mutants, assistants (a boy mutated, bald school
nun, and the homeless man nicknamed Razorface - head of pin anyone?). Saxon
gives an excellent performance, but it is only in the film for 15 minutes tops. And
Emge is good as the character Reggie Bannister who was hunting
doc madman who killed his family. The rest of the cast is blah.
1969 - "The Experiment Nietzche," a U.S. government
scientific experiment has created a superman drug to induce telepathic abilities. The problem is that
headed by a mad doctor (John Saxon) not above trying to conceal
grotesque mutations that arise.
"20 years later," Saxon continues to work with chemical agents, and four survivors
mutants (their "children"), attack and kill Coeds The Kant
Institute of Technology. A reporter and others set out to end the
madness.
The main problems here is that most violence is Offscreen (the best
FX are saved for ghouls), the film is boring overcrowded college kid
characters ( most of whom can not act) and the script stinks (and is often
totally senseless). The address is flat and uninteresting, apart from some minor
Dario Argento-inspired sets and basic lighting tricks, which
somehow fail to impress in this context. It is entertaining to see
David (Dawn of the dead) Emge in a rare appearance of Saxony and
what he can with his limited screen time. Apart from these two, the film is absolutely
forgettable.
