It is the height of the war in Vietnam, and U.S. Army Captain Willard (Sheen) is sent by Colonel Lucas (Harrison Ford) and a General to carry out a mission that, officially, 'does not exist - nor will it ever exist'. The mission: To seek out a mysterious Green Beret Colonel, Walter Kurtz (Brando), whose army has crossed the border into Cambodia and is conducting hit-and-run missions against the Viet Cong and NVA. The army believes Kurtz has gone completely insane and Willard's job is to eliminate him! Willard, sent up the Nung River on a U.S. Navy patrol boat, discovers that his target is one of the most decorated officers in the U.S. Army. His crew meets up with surfer-type Lt-Colonel Kilgore (Duvall), head of a U.S Army helicopter cavalry group which eliminates a Viet Cong outpost to provide an entry point into the Nung River. After some hair-raising encounters, in which some of his crew are killed, Willard, Lance (Bottoms) and Chef (Forrest) reach Colonel Kurtz's outpost, beyond the Do Lung Bridge. Now, after becoming prisoners of Kurtz, will Willard & the others be able to fulfill their mission?

Francis Ford Coppola on Apocalypse Now is an example of pure cinema
method. It is the true artistry of a filmmaker critical. The
art direction, editing and sound effects are partly a small fragment
that makes this film classic and memorable. What drives the integrity and
appearance of the film is the story, and internal message. The interior
message clearly enough that war is hell, or in other words, is a hell
war. Not many directors have the ambition or the true value of such
establish well-defined artwork. Filmmakers
Europeans do not have the slightest problem of directing the film or to launch their personal feelings about the war
. The most interesting is that a filmmaker talks about americas
his style and the style of the film collaborators across
continuity of the film.
The plot is fairly simple and brief, adapted by Joseph Conrad's Heart Of
darkness. Martin Sheen plays the role of Captain Willard, war-torn
character who sees no hope in mankind's life or more. The
and has a mission is to capture an alleged Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando) who
has produced an army of soldiers existensial on the outskirts of
jungle of Cambodia. Throughout the film we find surprising sequences.
The most unforgettable is the dawn helicopter attack.
Robert Duvall's Colonel Kilgore character is a constant and firm example of the U.S. base
army brain: search and destroy and then destroy some more if it includes
yourself. Children walk on the patio, unrelated to any danger.
helicopters come to see the dawn of the sea; million
reflect sprinkle water, we hear the roar of helicopter engines
the horizon soon enough and we are trapped in a disorderly attack. Throughout the sequence
heard Wagner 'Ride of the Valkyries ". This is the method cinema.
The starting sequence is as fascinating as the rest of the film, a
beautiful scene of palm trees blowing in the wind ripped away and seconds
become inflamed with a carpet bombing. And do not forget the scene where
soldiers in the boat travelling to Sheen, arresting an innocent
next boat, suspecting that VietCongs and performance Artillerie. Then
trigger a strong scene of the shooting in which all passengers
boat was pulverized into pieces with their crops and food
savaged in the atrocity.
This film has its famous moment, some better to be kept silent until
come across the screen. Do not require any intellectual
understanding, even though the film is intellectually remarkable. The
American soldiers in the Vietnam War jumped into the soil of a new government
country, in order to protect themselves and end only received death and chaos
of its troops and for most of the country were
fighting. This is a war gone mad, like all other wars, without purpose or
dignity. This is a pure act of humanity: to destroy and restore
greedy their own needs. This is a film in which there is no savior, where
is not possible to find hope in the gloomiest corners and where all
surroundings are plagued with the infatuations of greed, anger, selfishness and madness
. As Coppola once said about the film: "This film has nothing to do with
Vietnam. This film is Vietnam '. He was right to date. During the current
world situations, where they are trying to protect their own skin,
the world should try to analyse this film as far as possible and I wonder
about what they're trying to represent. It is a movie that does not ask
applause or condemnation. It calls realism.
Enjoy.
Somewhere in IMDb there is a discussion about the greatest director of all time
(Spielberg, Copolla and others are called there). The biggest
argument was about Spielberg and whether or not it is a great
director. The problem is that while he Spielberg is a master technician
, most of his films lack depth.Saving
Ryan is really outstanding from a technical standpoint, but his message is boring and while
its very entertaining, does not make you think about anything.
AN is the best movie I've seen, as it combines a great shot with
a deep philosophical perspective on many things, from the war
in general, the clash of civilizations, the status of soldier
in wartime (a soldier is a hero or a murderer? Brando said he
nor the French lady said it was at once ...) and many others.
The problem is that some people try to argue about whether these
points are true or false. However, a great movie, and a great work of art
in general is supposed to spark arguments, not to solve them ... Perhaps
Coppola is correct, or perhaps not, nobody has the truth anyway.
You can see this film for its beauty outside, incredible scenes, great acting and memorable quotes
and you will be fully satisfied. But what really
this film a masterpiece is its quality interior.
One can not help but make a comparison with the recent Fahrenheit documentary. Both
Copolla Moore and address similar issues, but at the same time presents Copolla
matters from an external, objective point of view, Moore takes
very partisan position that really commits an entire point
documentary ... It's really a pity that a film like Fahrenheit 9 / 11
won a prestigious award as Cannes. But anyway, if you want to start
to understand a little of the Vietnam War, the war in Iraq, the second World War and
of any war in general, you should see this movie, and not
the other ...
