On February 18, 2001, Robert Hanssen, a 56-year-old FBI agent, was arrested
, by the very agency he worked for, for selling secrets to the Russians
. He was sentenced to life imprisonment after writing
guilty to 15 counts of espionage. This is widely regarded as the worst
of treason in the history of American intelligence.

"Rape" looks at history through the eyes of Eric O'Neill,
young, up-and-coming junior agent assigned by researchers at the
Bureau to spy on Hanssen. In the position of personal assistant to
Hanssen, O'Neill is working to uncover evidence against his boss that
help strengthen the legal case being built gradually against him.

"rape" is fairly solid political thriller, less concerned with large
scenes of action with examining the relationship between these two
very different men set unconscious conflict with each other. Hanssen
himself is a vast mass of contradictions and hypocrisies.
A devout Catholic who attends Mass religiously, recites the rosary every day, and
look with disdain for homosexuals, women who use pants and nobody
apparently left to Rush Limbaugh and policy Ronald Reagan.
However, despite its outward display of moral rectitude, Hanssen secretly
distributes porno videos of his wife (she is unaware of its existence)
and betrays his country by the delivery of classified information to the enemy
. O'Neill is at the same time brought to
rejected and the man who manages to be both prig libertine and
at the same time. O'Neill knows that what you're doing Hanssen is terribly wrong, but
he can not help falling under the spell of a man who knows that under
other circumstances, might appreciate as
a friend and a mentor.

Ryan Philippe is subtle and brooding as the taciturn O'Neill,
reluctant to condemn the man who was sent to bring down until all the facts are in. It
Admittedly, its performance is a bit of a note-Johnny-
times, but since the character is the role of an observer rather than a catalyst
, Philippe seems self-help erase the editorial underplaying
right choice here. In addition, it clears the deck Chris Cooper
the move to the forefront with its finely tuned interpretation
Hanssen that brings real depth and dimensionality to the film. Mir
Hanssen in a richly complex figure, a man who
requires strict adherence to the form that still systematically violated that rule
very deepest core of his own being. A Stickler for protocol and standards
and unforgiving of those who fall short of them, somehow not Hanssen
to see their own weaknesses evident, while managing to condemn others for
yours. Through its perceptual performance, Cooper makes it possible for us to see this
walking paradox in all its complexity and humanity.

The film itself, written by Adam Mazer, William Rotko and Billy Ray,
and directed by Ray, is a bit plodding and sometimes does not feel as vital as perhaps should
Given the seriousness of the problems is
deal, but for the most part, we welcome your unfrenetic
approach to the topic. Do not try to gin up the melodrama or undo its
human enigma - and is not presented as truthful and impartial
as possible, then leaves the viewer to make the final judgement.
The story behind the FBI and the CIA have always fascinated me and I
have studied this history for many years. I am very conscious of history
of Robert Hanssen, and had to watch the movie because of that.
I had my doubts about this, being the avid cinema-goer that I am trying to
"Hollywood-IZE" too, as is almost always the case when a
true story hit the silver screen . This is not the case with "rape".

Some of the things in the movie stretch, as always happens,
but remains very faithful to the truth. "Rape" does a wonderful job
thesis taking slightly exaggerated parts to increase
sense of drama and suspense, and doing it successfully.

Another bright spot is Oscar winner Chris Cooper
fantastic image of Hanssen. Cooper does a great job of capturing Hanssen
bullying of young Eric O'Neill and his growing paranoia.
There is no doubt in my mind that the role of Cooper is worthy of Oscar.
It would be a pity if it were not nominated.

This film is excellent from start to finish and is undoubtedly the best
spy movie I've seen in ages. The film itself, like Chris Cooper,
I think it is worthy of Oscar.
