Jack (Daniel Day-Lewis) lives on the site of his abandoned island commune with his 16-year-old daughter Rose (Camilla Belle). Jack has sheltered Rose from the influences of the outside world, but now Rose's emerging womanhood poses troubling questions about the days ahead. A man who has lived a life motivated by environmentalism and other altruistic causes, Jack now rages at those who do not share his concerns, like developer Marty Rance (Beau Bridges), who is building a housing tract on the edge of his property. When Jack invites his girlfriend Kathleen (Catherine Keener) and her sons Rodney (Ryan McDonald) and Thaddius (Paul Dano) to live with them, Rose feels betrayed and the situation quickly becomes precarious. Rose acts out wildly, creating chaos. As everything flies out of control, Jack finds himself trapped in an impossible place and is forced to take action.

This film is a must for anyone who has witnessed or is emotional incest. Lewis describes Jack, a single father who has lived in isolation on an island with his daughter until his new girlfriend to move in. Until the arrival of the bride, Jack and his daughter Rose have lived in isolation on an island compound.
After the arrival of the bride, Rosa's jealousy grows, and she tries to take the place of the bride. In an effort to marginalize the bride, Rosa has a new interest in sexuality, the thought that must be what she wants and is getting his father of the bride.
It is obvious for anyone to see that Jack loves his daughter, and in many ways has been a wonderful father to her. The problem is not the master, or that he loves her too. The problem is that he loved her in the wrong. Rosa left to fill the void left by his mother. He rose to the high position of spouse. Jack realizes this and seeks to repair the damage.
The film also deals with the dreams of children of divorce have reconciliation. Pink displays all the postcards sent to his mother on a wall in the house and tells the new girlfriend that "one day return."
I always Daniel Day-Lewis of the characters, and Jack is no different. He is a brilliant and eccentric man who is conflicted by the desire to love and protect her daughter, and the desire to prepare for an independent woman. He has the clarity to recognize their weaknesses, and Bumbling its efforts to straighten things to the fragility of human compassion.
