Rowena Price is a muckraking reporter for a New York paper. When her story about a closeted gay Senator who preaches family values is spiked, she quits and soon finds herself investigating the grisly murder of a childhood friend. Her friend had been dumped by ad exec Harrison Hill, so he's Rowena's prime suspect. Rowena gets a job at the ad agency as a temp, and she's soon the object of Hill's attentions. She's helped in her subterfuge by Miles Haley, a friend at the paper who has a secret thing for her. Everyone, it seems, has secrets, including Hill, who must keep his affairs from his wife - her money fuels his lifestyle. Murder will out?

The only reason I can see for this movie to be released is because
celebrities are there. But Halle Berry excess acts and a chopped
shallowly developed character. I spent the whole movie waiting for the
plot can get going really, but what I got was a lot of
disconnected plot points and characters irrelevant.
Is supposed to be suspenseful, but most just wanted it more. When the end came
, yes, it's a surprise, but then I do not care about the
story at all. And it was only "surprising" because the whole story is
all random events loosely, very loosely connected to the final. It
... almost amateur. The story does not give enough background in most
characters to evoke sympathy, emotion or interest ... Special Willis' character
. It is a movie that is good in theory but not focused enough
to be held in the same esteem as other psychological thrillers.
The most developed and well-acted character is really Ribisi.
His performance is remarkable and sufficient to justify the 3 out of 10.
After watching Perfect Stranger, went to the movie page of the IMDb,
and discovered that there were three different endings filmed, each with a different character
guilty. This does not surprise me at all
. This is a film that jerks us around simply by the mere fact that he wants
visceral and around us. They do not want to figure out, and that
not play fair. When I realized that there was no point in the following
tracks and the film simply plays to the demands of the filmmaker
and ending worked with the best trial hearings, which made me hate this
Superficial and silly excuse for a thriller even more.
The film focuses on an investigative journalist named Rowena (Halle Berry
) who specializes in progress and exposing clandestine and businesses
political fraud with the help of his creepy best friend and workmate
Miles (Giovanni Ribisi) who seems to have a certain
unhealthy obsession with her that is painfully obvious to the public, however, seems blissfully ignorant
Rowena. Rowena has a hard time after she leaves
his job because of their histories and falling across
a childhood friend of his named Grace (Nicki Aycox) turns up dead. The two women
has come to have a chance at a meeting shortly before metro
The murder of Grace, Rowena, and she told him about how there must be a
a subject line with a powerful New York ad executive named
Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis). Grace mentioned that their relationship had soured recently
, and that Harrison was no longer speak with her. When
evidence that appears Grace may have been pregnant, Harrison becomes all the more suspicious
to Rowena, especially since
man is married and has a long history of recent affairs. The decision to investigate on their own
, Rowena is presented to Harrison's corporate office as a Temp
and tries to approach him with Miles trying to dig up more dirt on the man.
Of course, things are not what they seem, and the film has more red herrings than a
fresh fish market to keep us guessing in
pure futility.
There is nothing wrong with exactly the concept behind Perfect Stranger,
and director James Foley doubt, the film gives an attractive look.
The problem lies in the screenplay by Todd Komarnicki. The
seems to be trying to make an erotic murder thriller along the lines
Basic Instinct, but the film is not very erotic nor is very exciting.
The pace is slow to the point of being almost stagnant, and some scenes of sex
contained within the film are completely and instantly forgettable
. I think we are supposed to be captivated by the
plot twist that throws everyone plays an important role in a shady light.
The film emphasizes time and again that everyone has dirty secrets,
and yes, many secrets are exposed. The problem is almost all these
secrets exist simply to pull us of course. Not a single
leads to the correct answer. The answer only exists in any of the three endings
produced best. A thriller of this type has to be planned out
and lead to a real answer, not whatever the answer
filmmakers feel like it.
Long before we find that the film does not even want to play fair,
Perfect Stranger never really captures our attention to begin. The
characters are obscure at best and, as mentioned above, there are simply
to lead to multiple addresses. They are victims of a plot that
known to be intelligent. They have personality and real
no motivation other than to act as false clues. A good example is the character of
Harrison Hill, which is viscous, simply because it is supposed to be
viscose for the sake of history. The cheats his wife, threatening their business
enemies, and when he discovers that one of its employees has
escapes to find an external source, who physically abused him right in front of all
other employees. None of these actions
really matter. They have no motivation and that does not lead to his character
any goal. We can not be attached to these people, because
are not human, even to begin.
Since winning the Oscar for Monster's Ball, Halle Berry seems to be in a strange
single-minded attempt to kill his career. Chalk another loss
Berry. She is passable at best, but just about any other actress could have
filling their shoes, and she brings anything to the character.
Same goes for Bruce Willis, who has absolutely no charisma, and we
I can not understand why he is one of those ladies man except for the fact that
the film tells us it is. The only action that highlights
is Giovanni Ribisi as Miles, and is for all the wrong reasons. He is immediately suspicious
for us, because Ribisi plays up the Curiosity
his character almost from the moment walking towards the screen.
This makes the fact that the nature of Berry does not even seem the least bit unnerved
so its come across as a total idiot.
I will not reveal the end of Perfect Stranger, but I will say this.
When the end comes, do you personally see anything
during the course of the film that could have led to the conclusion that
wants to lead us to? Do not get read the full story beforehand. All tracks,
all the evidence, all roads that led us down has nothing to do with anything
. The film is a great explosion of large cigar that laughs at us when everything
blowing in our face. There are no right and wrong answers
. Only a very uninteresting film that does not even have the nerve
to play fair.
