Olivia (Jennifer Anniston) is part of a group of four friends
women who are all well, except for her. Having fled from a school
work, now cleans houses. She smokes some pot, pine
married man had a throw of dates with a personal trainer who'sa
cock; at the end, it ends with a client who'sa Slob but turns
To be nice, and very rich. Olivia three friends are Jane,
Christine, and Franny. Jane (Frances McDormand) is a success but feisty
very angry and designer clothes, with an apparent gay-called
husband Aaron (Simon McBurney), which attracts homosexuals, homosexuals and men-apparent.
Jane's Aaron found another Aaron (Ty Burrell), also gay-seeming, and
who have a kind of date, but this is for us or tease us about educating men
: Aarons are both happily married, and their friendship leads to
dinner for four, and that is that. Christine (Caroline prefer)
writes screenplays, and has unpleasant verbal fights with her husband David (Jason Isaacs
): her marriage crumbles, while the pair
build a second floor in his house that goes to ruin the view of its neighbours. When
Christine realizes this, and that her husband knew that he landfills.
Franny (Joan Cusack) is very rich, only poses with her children full time
aid, and is perfectly happy with her husband Matt (Greg Germann),
his two sons, and the world.

There are several issues here: forty-something crisis of women (Jane,
Christine), an unmarried woman and passivity aimlessness (Olivia); men
seems that either the homosexuals, or creeps, like Franny's personal trainer
Mike (Scott Caan) who sets out with Olivia, and that is rude and exploitation
toward Olivia, the husband of Christine, which can not be good < br> Christine - although it can not be kind to him, either. And money.
As there is always a problem.

a pivot point is the mascot of fiction comedy in americas social
friends stay together even when his fortune come to vary widely. To distinguish
its people among themselves, Holofcener uses
something like the eighteenth century comedy of humors, where a character is
dominated by a single trait or quirk: Olivia is obsessed with skin < br> lotions and even steal to get them; Jane collects
fights with strangers and not wash your hair; Christine is always hurting herself
by accident. Franny's rich husband is almost invisible, except for
insist on spending money, and he is the best man. He is possibly not gay
either.

addition to the married-men-that-seem-gay theme, when there is a sequence
Olivia allows boorish personal trainer to accompany
for his work cleaning, where some rooms and then demands it,
and receives a cut of their wages. Finally, gives a kinky Clean
uniform and orders around him in a job, a prelude to sex.
Only at the end of this episode when she sees him and follows that someone is dating
at night, does Olivia decides to stop seeing this creep.

What is making this movie? It is an opportunity for some fun
character acting, and McDormand and Cusack and McBurney
stand out. Anniston is well cast as the slightly depressed, but still helm
independent female, that somehow carries herself well enough to be accepted by
well outside his comrades - but Franny and her husband
agree that if he met Olivia now, she could not make the grade.

walking scattered incidents and emotions are united at the end of
a conventional comedy, a final public event that brings together the main characters
, in this case, a dinner for charity
people with Lou Gehrig's disease. Franny and her husband bought a table and Jane
provides women with its collection of dresses. Jane washes her hair
for the occasion. Christine comes without her husband because they are
divisions. Having arrived rid of the unpleasant
personal trainer, Olivia comes with the Slob client, and his revelation after
in the car and in bed that bad personal habits and
"problems" in hand, he is so rich that you do not need work,
promises a solution to your problem: she, like her friends, will take money. But this is
decentralized - actually center-less - and clearly influenced television -
plot. In the traditional theater, the lives of characters that fit
clear in the final, in farce, couples will recombine in
fun ways. By contrast here, the characters have just been moved around a little
, like chips on a board in a game that ends in a tie. The
episodes have the staccato separations remaining in
cable television dramas, even when there are no ads to interrupt.

There are some interesting - and repellent -
examples of bad behavior: the self-centered personal trainer, Jane's rude aggressions
in public; Christine and her husband during his defamation means < br> fights. But unlike Neil LaBute, Holofcener does not show how
moral failures or failures of will ruin relations between the sexes.
She likes to play with our expectations. The Slob client does not create jobs, and Olivia
he bargains for cleaning $ 100 to $ 65, then
turns out to be rich. The Aarons lead us to believe the husband of Jane
really become gay - said in her bed, "You're my best friend."
But in the end both the homosexual theme and money seem to matter as red < br> herring. Are gay men-an apparent criticism of machismo?
Money is a source of happiness when there is not enough of it? This film has no answers
. But what I'm wondering is if you have any questions. TV
writing can be very good, like Sex and the City and Six Feet Under (two
Holofcender has written for), Oz, The Sopranos, and several other programs
spectacle. But not always translate well in
the only ship of a movie.
"Friends with Money" a film seems incomplete.
It's as if writer-director Nicole Holofcener but tired of his characters
and simply ran out of ideas. I do not mind movies where nothing much happens
or no narrative conclusion. However, something seems terribly
unfinished and underdeveloped about this movie.

On the other hand, what makes it watchable are the performances.

Jennifer Aniston does her best work since "The Good Girl" (2002).
She still has the best chance of the "Friends" cast to have an excellent film
career if it continues to do a job like this - at least
playing characters such as Olivia. She should stay out of play fatal femmes
- In his last year's dismal performance "derailed" is proof enough
she is not ready to venture into territory Stanwyck or Fiorentino, yet.

But Aniston has a good sense of the conclusion that the line between comedy and drama
without forcing one too far. His Olivia is credible
only person who has incredibly bad taste in men - so far. Watch
damage and disappointment on the face of Aniston when Mike (Scott Caan)
true character comes out shows this woman has talent. Mike

this film really could be the most intriguing and interesting
character. Caan is very good on paper and just when you think
like him, he does something despicable.

Holofcener film revolves around a group of friends, most of whom are
rich, if not stinking rich. The exception is Olivia. And all
movie, Holofcener premiered their pain, insecurities and flaws.

Joan Cusack plays the rich and fraught with guilt and Catherine
women prefer once again demonstrates why remains so low rating. Here
an actress who can take small moments in a movie and turn them into
unforgettable. Prefers as precise and completely honest in his performance
. Christine's conversations with her husband, David (Jason Isaacs
), never ring false, thanks to two great performances.

The weak link in the film is really Frances McDormand's Jane. This is not the wonderful
McDormand fault. Trouble is, Jane's paintings Holofcener
McDormand as a dimension person - a woman who becomes
his repressed anger in a person rather annoying.
Holofcener never bothers to penetrate the surface of Jane's problems. We just know that
angry and that's all we see of it. It is a pity because a woman of infinite
McDormand acting talent deserves a much richer.

"Friends with Money" seems rather superficial at times because, unlike
Holofcener previous two films, this simply skirts the surface of
characters. With the exception of Olivia and to a lesser extent, Christine
never see other sides to these people.

There are more than their stories. Much more. But Holofcener
shows no interest in going there.
